yay! I can see them now. Very pretty eye candy and your clean looking engine puts mine to shame.... and mine is relatively clean!! Those shiny balancing pipes, you took them off and coated them if I remember? They dont just polish up? Also the cam covers and other red parts that you redid were they easy to take off? Anything you need to plug up temporarily? I want to do the same when I am done with this CF work. Ok call me ms copy cat

The air balance pipes, plenum bolts and dipstick bracket were chrome plated. It was easy to do and cost very little. I just took them off and gave them to my local metal polishers.
The plenum and cam covers went to the same place to have the old wrinkle finish stripped. They then went to be powder coated. The colour is a good match, but they lack the wrinkle finish.
I masked up the internal side of the parts and put some old nuts and bolts through the holes. When they came back from being coated, I used a very sharp knife to cut the coating from the raised lettering and the ribbed parts. A block of wet and dry then some solvol restored the finish.
The powder coating cost £30.
The plenum and air box are easy to take off, but you will need a set of gaskets for putting it all together again.
The best thing about taking the plenum off is that it makes an oil filter change ten times easier.

Hi Pat - Saw your car at Donnington - sorry did not get to meet (same goes for other LEW-posse) but it was only a flying visit...............
Seems our G-Turbo-HC brigade were showing well........... Do not know whose it was but I was very interested to see a simularly Calypso Red'ed HC Turbo parked halfway between Lotus car park and the Donnington collection museum.....
The car was VIN 12404....the car in front of mine on the track-line at Hethel!! Was that anyone heres car?
Must get a digi camera too to forward some photos....
Amazed to see the ex-King Hussain of Jordan HC go for £23K! The log-book showing his name and Ascot address was pretty cool though. Also amazed though that some idiot scratched the Paul Matty Ltd Edition. Anyone know if that car had the fitted luggage?

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL.
So have you got this daft idea of swapping it for a Mini 1275GT out of your system yet??? You should do when you open the garage and see this.
As one thirty-something to another I'll give you a bit of advice; you don't really want the Mini of 15 years ago, what you yearn for is your youth! Ask a 19 year old who can only afford a "T" reg Mini which he would rather have. And think if YOU could have had an Esprit then!

I was horrified to see that someone had scratched the entire length of this car. It beggers belief that this happened at the Lotus Festival.
Other than the nasty scratch, I was a bit disappointed with the car. The gunmetal colour isn't particularly nice and the decals look a bit naff. The interior, though, was amazing. Still, it is not every day you see a 1987 Esprit with less than 300 miles on.
King Hussain's car, however, was stunning, but I'm not sure I would have parted with £23,000 for a car with a big scrape on one of the front wheels...
I fear that both these cars are destined to see out their days in museums. They would need a lot spending on them before they could be used. They were both sitting on 17 year old tyres, for a start...
Cheers
Pat.
