Hi,

I’m looking for some advice on the day to day practicality of the RX-8, in particular the usability of the rear seats for children?

Do the rear doors make it easily accessible or are the front seat belts a tripping hazard?

Thanks any advance for any comments.

Darren.

The seats are big enough to fit normal size people (up to 6ft) in as long as the front seat driver is no bigger than 6ft.
The front seat belts are connected to the "B" pillar on the rear doors so do get in the way for anyone getting in to the back but the front seat occupant just needs to undo their seatbelt whilst the person gets in and shuts their door.
The rear doors make getting in and out easily accessible you just need to put you first foot in and drop your bum in to the seat and then bring your last leg in.

The only thing I will say is the back seats may be a bit claustrophobic for kids as the the windows on the rear doors are quite far forward of the seats, high up on the door and quite small.

My two kids loved it in the back of the RX8 (they were 5 and 7 when I sold it) but they werent able to see out the windows so we only used it for short journeys. Also, due to their small legs not being able to bend their was sod all room for whoever went behind me. If there were three of us in the car I would deactivate the front airbag and put one in the front on a booster seat and one behind.

I had no problem with teenagers in the back of mine. The rear seats slope so that your knees are drawn up. I didn't try booster seats. The rear side windows are very high as the others have said.
