Bulbs

Hi all,

Are there any recommendations for headlight and fog light bulbs? I'm not looking to spend a fortune.

I have a 1998 mondeo if that helps. Dont want them to dazzle other drivers but would like some extra vision (i think i have the standard ford candle light bulbs currently) on normal driving beam.

Would like a nice bright pair of fog lights too. Found out last week my fogs light dont actually work....

Any advice aprreciated.

You can change your bulbs and you may see a small improvement but if the reflector surface (internal parts of the headlight) is cloudy/dull or the lens is opaque (like some plastic ones do go) then you are never going to get the best out of any bulb you fit no matter how high a wattage or fancy a bulb you fit.

Of course if the headlight unit is a sealed one - ie you can't remove and replace the lens then it's a difficult/impossible job to access the reflector surface then best option is to replace the headlights complete........ It's a Ford so I would hope they are Ford prices (or find a better set from a breakers)

Yes if you were on the M45 last week you would have needed fog lights. Thanks for assuming im a mindless tt that prowls around using my fog lights as main lights though... I'll remember to spell it out next time.

My headlights look pretty clean inside but ill see how easy it is to clean them.

Yes if you were on the M45 last week you would have needed fog lights. Thanks for assuming im a mindless tt that prowls around using my fog lights as main lights though... I'll remember to spell it out next time.

I know from driving around that some Mondeo with plastic lenses really suffer badly from clouding/haze

Trouble with most modern cars is everything is going over to sealed unit with plastic lenses so cleaning the internals which makes a big difference to light output and spread is pretty near impossible when you can't take the front lens off!!

I did my 99 740 headlight internals about two years ago - unit out - glass removed and cleaned the internal reflective surfaces of 9 years of traffic film - made a huge difference - I thought they were awfull before (they are just adaquate now) I bet you can't do that on more 7 series recent models

PS - sometimes the reflector surface on the bulbs themselves goes matt - surprising what a difference that can make as well so worth checking
