GT3 on Fith Gear
Discussion
Did anyone here see fith gear on Channel 5 this pm?
Tiff Needell was in a new GT3 Clubsport at a track up north (Croft I think)and was racing against a high performance agile helicopter several hundred feet up and won by a narrow margin.
Tiff referred to the GT3 as the ultimate track day car though I'm sure there are others on this forum with other harcore Porkers who would beg to differ.
The GT3 was in SY, the best colour IMO, though I totally biased.

Brendan,
I read the article in Autocar earlier this year where they used your car in the GT3 RS V 360 CS comparison.
Bet you were chuffed that the RS matched the Ferrari in straight line speed and was judged the better trackday car. Bought myself a GT3 Clubsport shortly after reading this article.

Geoff,
The stradale is a fantastic car....but the simple equation was that for stradale money you could have a RS and a M3 to use everyday....a friend of mine got a stradale a week before i got my RS...its now sold due to the fact that on most trackdays in this country its too loud!....kinda shot itself in the foot as a trackday car....you'll be pleased to know that he's getting a speed yellow GT3 in may...so there's another one for you to wave at!

I'm not convinced that the CS is meant as an out and out track car though, in the same way that I'm not sure the GT3/RS is either.
They're very extreme versions of the road cars they're based on.
Dangerous thing coming in here as an Italian fan
, but the criteria on which the CS was trumped in that article was cost. Which, frankly, is not a key concern of these cars.
Let's face it, if you want out and out track performance it's possible to buy a number of machines demonstrably quicker than either for a lot less than half the price of either. You're kidding yourself if you thiink the GT3 is the quickest road usable track car out there.
And the "you could buy an M3 with the change if you bought an RS over a CS" is missing the point so badly it's laughable. Point is that someone *wanting* and being able to afford a CS, whilst almost certainly agreeing that the RS and M3 are good cars, would not want either (with his heart).
As for your friend, well I hope he likes the GT3, honestly I do. But I also hope he doesn't frequent track days with Radicals or fast Caterhams too often as he'll probably end up losing more money on a car when he gets fed up of them being all over him. After all, you could by an Audi RS6 Avant, a trailer and a Radical, plus track spares for the price of a GT3 RS
Footnote: I like 911s. Rubystone will one day get me into one. But I doubt I'lll be giving up my other cars. I'm also not a massive fan of the 996, so it'll probably be a 993 or early RS.

I think the point about the GT3(RS) is the 'feel right' factor: it's status as the most sublimely balanced 911 to-date may well be justified and whilst of course an SR3/4 will quite probably 'whup it' round most circuits, the ability to blend real world and track drama with such accessability is surely what makes it great?
Porsche do have a habit of honing things pretty well!
The price differential does render the Stradale comparison somewhat tenuous; I'd have thought the GT2 it's more natural nemesis?

Murph....very valid point about the caterhams and the radicals...they will all dance round a GT3 RS or a standard GT3.....but they would also dance around the stradale....neither of them are outright track cars they fill a niche between performance cars and race cars...no need for trailers or the like ...drive to the track with your friends ..in a convoy..breakfast on the way.....a good blast round with a car that has a hard enough egde not to blitz its tyres...cook its brakes...kill its engine or be hopelessly outclassed....if it rains you have a roof and wipers...if its cold you put the heater on.....hot? well hell lets have the air con...maybe even the radio or a cd on the way home.....thats how i see them..I'm under no illusion that i purchased a race car and i don't think either the RS or the CS where sold as anything but trackday toys...its just a shame that the CS is too noisey for most uk trackdays
As for my laughable point about the M3 from the change.....my friend with the GT3 on order went and got his old 550 back from the garage with his change after selling the stradale....laughable?...I have my RS as a toy pure and simple...my M3 gives me a usable everyday car....laughing?......well put it this way i'm always smiling which ever one i'm driving

All very logical, but only in PH land. I still don't understand why I ended up buying a CS. I really don't.
I can tell you what it isn't. It isn't a case of 'we've got this much to spend, so let's see- is it an M3 and an RS, or CS
' Anyone with any sense would buy several houses in Preston instead (no offence to anyone living in Preston, it's just an example, OK?). Closest I get to it is you just see something you want, lock onto it, and nothing else exists until you get it. Suppressed hunting instinct see? I blame society.

this thread started with a comment about a GT3 going round a track....its seems a shame for all...that the CS isn't as welcome at as many tracks as the GT3 ...I know ferrari are working on exhausts for the uk trackday market....but then isn't the noise some of the appeal of the CS?.....I know i'm on a sticky wicket arguing any car that costs 90k is good value...i was ruled by my heart...as are most CS owners i'm sure...we could all drive smart cars and have the money in the bank...but that would be boring ...which is exactly what the rs and the cs are not...both are totally intoxicating...ones just a bit cheaper and not so noisey...imho
