Ok so I have had the screen on the wife’s E39 replaced and noted the screen comes with a male connector bonded to the screen. Unfortunately our 2 year old son had escaped his Recaro child seat (not recommended as kiddie seats go really) to attempt to drive the car. Well possibly just to have a go at steering the car while stationary would have done.

Unfortunately his valiant effort for freedom and driving liberty was thwarted by his little Puma’s lack of purchase on the moving central armrest. Needless to say the poor lad was going down. In a desperate attempt to save himself crashing he wrapped his little hands around the rear view mirror and tore if off!

Good news my lad remains undamaged.
Bad news the rear view mirror is now detached. It seems as if the male connector is indeed bonded to the screen but it itself has mounting lug in the shape of a hexagon it attaches too.

Can anyone help me understand the best way to 1 extract the male connector from the rear view mirror?
Also how can I re attach this male connector on the hexagon lug on the screen?

I can’t be the only one who has suffered this..

Advice please.

If I've read it right, it should be fairly easy...

The 'hexagon' bit on the window will accept the other side as you know, the trick is to 'twist' it on. the mirror side, I think you'll see 3 very very strong bars. You'll need to offer it up close to the hexagon - do it in the position the mirror would normally be in, then twist it about 75-85 degrees and offer it up to the hexagon, then push it forward and 'twist' it the way you want the mirror to be. If you're lucky, it'll catch and you feel some resistance, power past the resistance and it should snap into place.

Thats the best way I can describe it !

cheers, Dennis!
