The wife has got 11 days off work in January and we were thinking of going to Japan for 10 of them. A week in Tokyo and a few days relaxation in Hakone.

We'd like to see/photograph Mt Fuji and are aware how shy it is in the summer months, hence winter might be an attractive option for this. But what is Tokyo like that time of year? Any advice greatly appreciated.

At least you've got more of a chance of understanding somebody in Japan compared to the folks in Wales.

We are coming out of the wet autumn season now. Things are generally not too cold here and we do get some very clear days in Jan/Feb.

The only thing you might want to think about is that at JPY130/GBP and falling, this place is bloody expensive to buy beer etc. You are looking at 50 quid return to Hakone on the train (its only 40 mins...) and about 100 quid per person per night in a traditional hotel up there.

Take a look at www.japanican.com to get an idea of prices.

Drop me a note if you have any detailed queries: I have been living here for 2 years now.

I was working near Mount Fuji a few years ago in January, cold and snowy ... and as always in Japan .. fantastic.

Plus Tokyo is amazing, I have been there 3 times.

It is however as the last poster pointed out, very expensive !

But if you can afford it, highly recommended.
