Evening All, well i've bitten the bullet and taken advantage of an incredible deal and the need of our dealer to shift this summers stock. Chopped our 1930 Chaparral in against this little beauty;

She's a 226 ssi WT exactly as she is in the picture.

Question is about the engine, she's fitted with a 5l Penta DuoProp. Never had anu experience with the Volvo motors, been Merc all my life. Anyone any good or bad stories they want to tell me?

Cheers

I don't know much about boats but I know some Sunseekers are fitted with Volvo engines, that can only be a good thing.

Volvos tend to be quite robust compered to Mercs. Good drives but need careful maintainence. The motors are the same as Mercs, GM blocks, so not much differnce.

While she is in warranty, keep a good record of dealer service. Maybe helpful for a claim in the future and for resale means. Keep your Serial number with the boat as sparkplugs, belts and pumps have changed recently.

Winter lay-up should be done by the book. There is no short cut.

Have fun with your new mistress.

Great advice thanks Dave.

So its the drive that isn't as robust as the Aplha/Bravos then? Will take note and i'll be a VERY good boy with the maintainence!!

Has it got NOS mate? nuts

I know nothing about boats other than they are holes in the water into which the owner pours money

Its all about the maintenance and driver use..but if you are used to a Merc Bravo 1 then no problem.

NOS?

Now Owner Skint?

Narked Off Spouse?

Never Open Statement?

Normal Operations Suspended?

Nasty Odour Smelled?

Nominal Outside Socialising?

Nascent Obsessive Scroungeing?

Oh yes, all boats come with some form of NOS.

Good engines however

A mate had one in his boat and was planning a complete overhaul and it worked out only slightly more expensive to buy a new lister then it was to buy the bits to over haul the volvo

If you have the Vlovo Duoprop you will be fine, the leg is latently more reliable than the Bravo3, had both in the UK and the tropics, the merc leg is junk.

Volvo parts do tend to be horrendously priced, even on their smaller engines.

It's worth looking around for pattern parts on stuff like impellers, filters, and anodes, as they can be got considerably cheaper than the branded part.
