SSC Ultimate Aero II Revealed

...And this one's going to do 275mph

This is the Shelby Super Cars Ultimate Aero II (though how you can have a second iteration of something that's ultimate we're not sure), and it's the car that the American company hopes will help it steal back the title of 'world's fastest car' from the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

The original SSC Ultimate Aero was never the prettiest of things, but it did at least have pace on its side - 256.18mph of it, to be precise. Now, though, Bugatti has raised the bar, and this is SSC's response - which it hopes should take road car top speeds up to 275mph.

To do so, the Ultimate Aero II uses a 6.8-litre, 9000rpm twin-turbo V8 giving out 1350bhp. But it isn't just power - there's good old-fashioned weight saving in there too. The wheels, for example, are the world's first one-piece carbon fibre items and weigh less than 6kg each. Overall, SSC's latest creation will almost double the power to weight ratio of the Veyron.x

Oh, and the new body - designed by the ever-creative Jason Castriota (now of Saab fame) - now give the Ultimate Aero a sharper set of clothes. Which, when you're shelling out almost a million dollars, is the least you'd expect - even if your new supercar can top 275mph.

Now thats a bit more like it, a huge improvement over the first one, even if top speeds are now getting so high they are largely irrelevant, because there are so few places you could actually achieve it.

Will be interesting to see the actual road going version.

No don't...and get some glasses...'ugly'??!! ....please..... Pagini would do well to take a close look at this to see how to do the 'Hyper-Car' look properly.

Revealed? it was in Top Gear magazine about a month ago about a 5 page article.
Great car by the looks of things though and they are getting serious about doing things properly not just shoving in a gert big engine.

I agree. It looks to be an incredibly good attempt at luring you in and saying 'hey there, wanna take me for a drive?'.

I has no monies for this. Damn.

I think this looks great and I'm sure it will not become a production vehicle until they are sure it will take back the crown so I guess we're looking at the next fastest production car in the world.

The last SSC UA was a horrible thing and I think everyone has to agree that this is a massive improvement looks-wise.

One last thing, how come PH are slow to report news of this car? TopGear magazine had it on their cover (along with a 4/5 page article) about two or three months ago.
