odd experience at 6am!

just thought i would let you guys know about my morning!
so driving to work with my dad (him driving) at about 6ish, when we encounter a ford fiesta in the fast lane on the motorway...
hes doing an average speed, sees us coming up behind him (middle land is empty and nothing ahead for a while) and does not move over. my dad proceeds to flash him, and still no moving.
after a while we take him on the inside as its getting frustrating (naughty i know sorry
), where he then tries to speed up to block us from pasing (no chance in a 1.2 or whatever it was!), flashes a lot and speeds up to the back of the bumper for as long as he can manage.
so bit further a long the journey he ends up at traffic lights in the lane next to us at a red light. we see its him and obviously are both laughing away to ourselves. he then starts waving at the window, so we lower it. he then says the usual 'you got a problem mate', and we continue to laugh and say its a bit sad that he was so bothered and chasing, so he takes back something nasty with some nice noises and spits through the window! to say we were shocked was a big understatement!
has anyone ever had spitting through the window?!?!?! cant say i have ever seen that before!
and why does having to move one lane seem to difficult to some people, it seemed like a huge loss of ego/manhood to this guy!

I have never had spitting through a window but I once overtook someone in a Rover 216 (the really old ones) in my Subaru Impreza Turbo (this was back in 1997). Without me realising, he followed me to a friends house who I was on my way to pick up. He pulled up along side me as I parked and through a lit cigarette through my window (I got to it before there was any damage).
I immediately jumped out of the car and chased him as he reversed to drive off. He got away but not without a size 10 imprint in his passenger door and a fist sized hole in the middle of his boot lid.
I wouldn't mind but I didn't even do anything illegal when I overtook him. I think he was just embarrassed because he was trying to drive fast.

Most people I know would have got out of the car and given him a pasting for spitting, me included. Especially if there were two of you and only one of him.Edited a formatting cock-up

Yeah I agree, driver was an arse. probably looking for trouble IMO.
It wouldn't have mattered what you did; he would have reacted the same way. driving at 60 in the outer lane of an empty motorway is very odd behaviour.
In that situation if all three lanes were free I would have passed him on the nearside lane rather than middle to keep as much distance.
Flashing shouldn't be an issue, but people can be idiots these days. Next time, tell your dad to indicate to the right to show you are wanting to pass. works well for me.
did you get the reg plate of the car? i'd report him just for sh!ts and giggles :P

just joking, didnt get a chance as he rolled his window up at the red light when my dad got out and walked over to it.
he was still shouting through the glass though! haha
and then spit again when dad got back in the car when he was safe again.haha

Agre with the previous comment though, if they are aware of their surroundings, indicating to the right will give them the message without the knee-jerk reaction. If they are unaware of their surroundings then falshing won't help either.

ks - he was sat behind a tt who doesn't know what lane to drive in.Flashing his lights isn't necessarily an aggressive move - he was simply alterting the moron to his presence.
He didn't necessarily undertake him. He moved past the vehicle in the inside lane - I don't read that he moved into lane 2, undertook him, then pulled back into the lane 3 as this would have been pointless and rather negated the original whinge about the idiots lane discipline.
Yes he laughed in his face - what else is he supposed to do when placed in that situation? Cower? Apologise for nothing? Shoot him?
Who can take being spat in the face? I have a very long fuse but that would illicit a very strong physical response from me I'm afraid.

As frustrating as it is, just pass them on the inside and be on your way. Save the stress.
Flashing your lights at them won't teach them a lesson, without sitting them down and explaining things to them they will just assume your flashes are an act of random aggression. It's sad but there's not much you can do other than hope that plod pulls them one day for it.

I do alot of driving in the early hours at the weekend (read 2 or 3am) and the number of times I have had to cruise past cars on a dual carriage way using the inside lane is stupid - all at legal speed too.
Only ever had one person object to it despite me sitting behind them flashing and then indicating, very odd behaviour.
