Have I fixed this right?
Discussion
Hi all,
A friend has a StreetKA that had noisy tappets and magically disappearing oil. Upon inspection I found the culprit:

The oil appeared to be leaking out of this hole, which is just on the front of the drivetrain. So to fix it, I loosed the clasp and slid the rod down so it is tight on the rubber gromit, and tightened it up, so it looks like the below now:

There was a good 1 1/2 inches of movement to get it to slide down to the bottom; so I'm a bit dubious that it shouldn't have been pushed all the way down. Is this right? Or should it be just covering the hole? I just can't understand how this could come loose on a 4 1/2 year old car...?
Any feedback much appreciated

Not entirely clear how engine oil is going to be leaking out of the transmission selector rod???
I suspect the oil is coming from somewhere else, and blowing backwards onto the rod, making it look like it is "leaking" - best to pressure wash off underside of car, then take it for a quick drive (at lowish speed) and you should be able to tell where it's damp!
(btw, has the gearstick position now changed?? esp if you have slid the selector rod 1.5" (??) futher down the shaft??)
(also, it's not uncommon for the trans selector rod to look a little damp, as it is at the lowest point of the g/box, and has to slide in/out of a seal/bearing arrangement, which tends to slowly weap oil past eventually, but big diff between being a little "damp" and actually "pissing out")

If it is the pushrod boat anchor thing (endura-e?), the tappets need adjusting. They seem to go out of adjustment just by looking at them, there are no lock nuts on the tappetts so they are held (or not) by a tight thread.
The rocker cover has a cork gasket which tends to leak oil all over the front of the engine, an easy fix.
To notice a big drop oil it would have to be pissing out, more likely it's just burning it.
