Honda CR-Z... Impressions

I'm currently at the Honda dealer having the CTR serviced, so rather than sitting here bored I enquired about taking the new CR-Z out. No problem, they said...
So, 1.5 litre hybrid, not exactly huge power or torque figures, interesting styling and a decent interior.
It only had about 3 miles on it, and came back with 17, nearly all dual carriageway so not really a lot of time to get any long lasting feelings. However my initial view is very positive. Nice smooth engine, sharp turn in and a decent ride - far nicer than the CTR. There are 3 'modes' - economy, normal & sport. Tried economy first then into sport at about 30 in second as I accelerated onto the D/C. There was a noticeable sharpening of the throttle response, and engine note and a weightier feel to the steering. It seemed to hit 70-80 with no fuss at all and I was pleasantly surprised at how much quicker it felt than I had expected. Not 'quick' by any means, but certainly not slow.
I wouldn't have even know it was a hybrid had it not been for the battery indicator on the dash which shows when it's assisting the engine, under acceleration.
I liked the interior, the futuristic Honda dash I find quite appealing, interior room was ok for 2 adults in the front. Rear seats are child or midget only.
Overall I was quite impressed. It was certainly better than I had thought it would be. Would I buy one? Probably not.
I feel a tad dirty saying it... But. I like a Hybrid.

They have a lovely one in Johnsons Honda MK with about £5k of extras.
Personally think it's a godsend as it basically opens up the floodgates for other manufacturers to make a fun, economical, petrol engined car. I'm not so fussed about saving the planet but it would save my wallet.
All those that have said that a diesel gets identical mpg are missing the point IMHO.
