Diff bushes

Are all three differential bushes the same size?

I have been sent two of the big ones, and one smaller one. i was under the impression that all three bushes where the same size?

I think the rear one is different to the front two but it's about 2 years since I did mine so I could be wrong.

Thanks Ireland. Don't want to start dismantling only to fine I've got the wrong one. Well not until I've sorted and car out so I can put the cerbera away over winter

From memory...I think all three are the same...? Think it depends on which type...rubber vs poly...see here...

I used poly bushes on my 98 4.2 and as I say, pretty sure they were all the same.

All 3 are the same size on the Cerbera.

Some early Griffiths use a smaller one & 2 larger ones.

All 3 diff bushes are identical on the Cerbera regardless of model.

yeah i've heard the stories and been doing the research into doing them. I've got planned to change the diff bushes, make the handbrake work, change the gearbox oil seal (if its that thats leaking), change the diff oil, clean and paint the diff. My plan was two days, but have decided to get another car so that i can take my time and still get to work if i can't finish it in the days between shift.

As kojak says...top diff bush is a tw*t! Your two days could easily be taken up removing that alone!

Is your diff tip top? Whilst its out is it not worth getting it checked and refurbed...costs about £350/£400 but it would have new seals, etc and would mean its far less likely to go wrong in the future....just a thought.

when you fill the diff with oil to the fill plug and start using the car dont be suprised if you see a leak...I was told that they 'overflowed' from new until the level settled down. theres a vent on top and this is where the overflow comes out.

Whilst the diffs out get stuck into the other jobs - chassis...clean & paint! check brakes lines. etc

cars only done 20k and on 04 plate, so will be checking whilst its out, but should be okay, with my experience with the hydratrak diff in the V8 ZT. I repair trains by day so anything on a car is pretty small in comparison and certainly not afraid of getting stuck in.

it took me 2 days to get the top bush out ended up useing a 36"long air chisel though the wheel arch but still a pig of a job

It took me hours, far too long, I used a junior hacksaw in the end to cut through the old bush

It's good with all the people who have already done it and the advice ill be armed with when it comes to doing it. At least if I have another car it doesn't matter how long it takes to do the job. As my cerbera is my only transport expect my free London transport pass the I rarely use I'm stuck as the moment

But thanks every one for the advice I'm sure you'll be hearing or seeing my experience when I do it. Hopefully before the November tunnel run through London

A short air chisel used up-close should get it done faster than that.

Consider one of Ridd's uprated diff mounts while your doing this, a wise move in my eyes. When my diff mount broke it knackered the diff also.

yep check on the uprated mount was delivered this week. nice bloke to deal with.

I was gonna say, maybe you could train a rat to chew it out. A bit of peanut butter smeared over it might work.

Just received one of Ridds uprated diff mounts,so doing the bushes soon...sounds like a pig of a job,is it easier with the diff removed????
