No, I'm not looking for love something much more satisfying, insurance. I had a quote from Tesco's last year of 3 grand.

After 9 months scouring the classifieds have finally found a suitable motor and am getting it checked out. Subject to a satisfactory report I was hoping to be the proud owner of my first TVR. My VW is insured with Tesco's so I went to them last year to get an idea of what I was looking at so I could start saving. However I rang up yesterday to get a revised quote as I am moving house and the lady on the other end of the phone said I was too young and they wouldn't do it because of the insurance group and me being 26 (27 in May).

Any blokes out there 27 or younger with insurance in their own name or am I am being unrealistic?

I had a chimaera for 3 years and I was 22 when I brough that. Now just got a cerbie and have just turned 26. Simple thing with insurance companies is to phone round for a day. Pain in the neck but got to be done. The other thing is to get a Cat 1 or Cat2 immob/alarm and garage the car. These all help.

Cheers
Alex

Just turned 26, 4 years no claim, RG1 - £1750 from Tescos. Looking forward to my renewal in July to get a cheaper quote, fingers crossed.

26, 4yrs NCB, insured with Egg £1050 on 4.0 litre Chim, and to add to that, when I did make a claim 4 years ago they agreed and approved the claim within two days, which allowed the work to mend the car to start on the third day. Pretty good in my opinion. if your new to Egg insurance, if you get an egg credit card i think you get another 10% or 15% off in the first year.

I had a 450SE wedge when i was 26. I insured it through Direct Line. They have a good online quoting facility and it saves your quote up to a month in advance. The company then honour this figure during this time. I payed £840. No accidents etc, 8 years NCB, live in Guildford, Surrey, not garaged.

I was quite pleased with that quote!

I was 24 when I got my Chim 400 - paid about £1000 through elephant.co.uk I think.

Now 27, drive a Griffith 500 - pay about £650 through Sunninghill.

(6 yrs NCD, garaged in Bedfordshire, 3points for speeding June 2001)

Phone around - Sunninghill and Mannings have traditionally had good prices for TVRs.

Try sunning hill, I’m 26 and they insure me, you could also try Peart they insured me previously, classic line were quite competitive as well if you plan to do under 5000 miles a year.

Have you ever had a high performance car before? Some specialist companies won’t insure you until you’ve had over a year’s experience.

Are you a member of the TVR car club? If so look in sprint, they have a number of companies in there.

I used confused.com this time.. Bell direct came out with the best quote, £40 cheaper than Tesco.
(£745, 29, full no claims, one accident)

I can second the advice to try manning or sunninghill - they have both been the cheapest for me over the last couple of years. However if your car is over something like six years old Classicline blow both of these out of the water for limited mileage policies

Just gone throught the phoning round for insurance saga. At 28 with full NCD and the chim 4.5 garaged in Derbyshire the best I got was around £850 fully comp with no limit on the milage from directline.

If you can put up with a 5k milage limit try classic line, they insured my wedge once I was over 25 and the chim last year, this years renewl had gone up around £100 to £640.

I'm 28 and with Sunninghill, got 3 yrs NCB and a couple of previous convictions, last year it was about £1300. One thing in my favour is that I live in a village with zero car crime. It's just about to run out again and I'm not sure what the renewal is yet.

26, already had a policy TPFT on a Saxo (gulp!) which had 9 months to run (£390) with Elephant. Full no claims, kept on the street (SW17), 10,000 miles pa, for work and home, 3 points, 1 no fault accident, girlfriend on the policy (this made a big difference - brought it down by about 30%), £1200 for a 98 4.0.

Though helpfully, Elephant no longer cover the 4.0, onyl the 4.5! V. strange.

I have 6 points and a full no claims, Sunninghill quoted over £1k for an equivalent policy to Classicline's @ £500...
