I took my eunos out the other night, and I could be believe how bright the main beam was!

So much brighter than any other car I have had, even brighter than the 6's xenon lights.

Is this normal?

The headlights on my Eunos are pretty new replacement units and although better than the yellow originals they're still rubbish compared to my normal Honda Civic. I'd fit spotlights if only there was somewhere sensible to put them.

Both my sealed unit lamps packed up shortly after I got my MK1.

I replaced them with headlams that I could replace the bulbs in the future. A quick trip to Halfprds and I bought extra bright bulbs for it. I chose white but could have had either a yellow or blue tint to them. They are 30% brighter than the originals and they don't half light up the road. Only cost £50 for the replacements.

I didn't like the sealed units because I like to carry a spare bulb with me.

+1 on the Halfords brilliance bulbs, they don't half light up the road and it's a nice white light. I've not tried Philips or Osram bulbs, but Halfords almost always have a BOGOF deal on anyways.

Still on my origional sealed unit type thingys.

I carry a box of candles with me at all times for marginally better illumination.

Lights on Mk2.5 are excellent, especially with Ring + 100% bulbs! - best lights I've had for many years since I had a Rover P6 (but that was cheating. It had 4 headlights, all with 120W bulbs and 2 200W Rally Giant spot-lights. You could feel the heat from them 10ft in front of the car hehe)

Here it is!

I really wish I'd kept that car. It was lovely to drive, comfortable but surprisingly good handling, loads of space for 4 people, quiet and comfortable at a 100mph cruise (in the handbook it said they were designed to cruise at 100mph!). It was a 2000TC with a bored 2200TC engine so had plenty of poke - quicker in fact than the 3500 biggrin

Anyway, sorry for the thread hijack, just reminiscing with my rose-tinted history glasses on biglaugh

My Mk1 lights with some Philips (I think) bulbs in are far better than the 4x4 I have and the 4x4 is 14yrs younger!

yes

Replaced the sealed candles with semi-sealed units and decent bulbs. They're cheap and its an easy swap.

Just had the lights out.

And they are definitly sealed units.

Thats 17 years on one bulb. Not bad.

Are these the best ones to replace with?

Any other optioons?

Very interesting thread BTW as both the wifes MX5 and my Quantum have terribly bad gloworms for headlamps.

Old-ish. I'm 44 but drove a lot of older cars in my yoof. Partly because I couldn't afford anything newer but mostly because I like cars with a bit of character bowtie
