Hi, newby here, I am interested in a car, the guy is ostensibly in hospital and he is dealing through UK U SHIP, the deal is you pay them £1800 (half the price of the car), they pick it and ship it to you, you like it you give them the rest of the money, you don't they give you your money back.

This to my cynical eyes has all the hallmarks of a Nigerian money scheme. Has anyone used it and can convince me that its legit ? Because it sounds as dodgy as hell. The car is for sale on PH, it's listed as being in London, but the car is in Newcastle, the guy is allegedly in hospital (also in Newcastle) and it all sounds more than a little flaky.

The car however, sounds great and I am really keen, if it is legit, then it all sounds great and I'll go along with it. But you know, there are a lot of stooges out there !!

Anyone had experience ??

Many, many thanks
Sean

sounds too good to be true = IS too good to be true

if you go for it, in the words of Enya, watch your money "sail away, sail away, sail away" redface

Surely can't be that rare a car that you can't find another that will rob you of eighteen hundred quid?

Not an option according to the guy "on his back in hospital"

Back to plan A - tell the guy he's on crack.

Jeez guys, lighten up !! I'm pretty sure that I said I thought it was flaky but I've been out of the country for a while and I wanted to make sure things weren't done this way.

As I said, I feel like it's a Nigerian money scheme, glad you agree, but I'm on your side !! Blimey, glad I didn't ask for help !! ;-)

This by any chance:
http://pistonheads.com/sales/2161127.htm

X Type diesel, quite cheap.
Phone number is wrong.
email is a Nicholas Burns @ hotmail, but I got a reply from a Craig Schneider @ hotmail. Same as OP, in hospital for three weeks. Asking where the car actually was, as I have a friend near Durham I could have visited on the way, (and just brought cash), I discovered it was in Newcastle. I eventually got this:

Good evening,
The car is in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Viewing is a problem because it could take up to 5 days to make an appointment for it and I'm not willing to wait such long, sorry.

I will explain you how UK uShip works:

1. You transfer £1,050,00 to UK uShip
2. UK uShip deliver the car to your address
3. You sign a contract for 5 days/500 miles to test and verify the car with a mechanic
4. You transfer the rest of the money to UK uShip if everything is okay and you decide to keep the car
5. If by any reason you won't like it or is not described like in the pictures UK uShip will give you full refund of your money in the same day
6. After you decide to keep the car UK uShip will transfer the money to me

I'm waiting your name, address and telephone # so I can start the shipping process tomorrow morning.

Cheers

Number 6 contradicts his earlier statement about speedy expedition, and as I said, I have the cash.

U ship's website is quite easy to navigate, it makes no mention whatsoever of items 1 through 6, merely being a carriage broker. Further, you can look back through the contracts. There isn't one for transport of an X Type, which is supposedly already paid for.

be contacting newcastle police later this morning to see if this sort of thing has come to their attention before.

Yep, that's the one. My car of interest was an Audi TT. PH should be aware of this scam.

Instead bought a magnificent E55 estate off here with a fanastic seLler and we dealed face to face !! How quaint !

Be careful out there groovers !!
