What to get with a budget of £6000?

I'm about to come off my companies car lease scheme and buy myself something to replace it.
I've got a budget of about £6000 and am having trouble deciding what to get for this money. I'm trying to be sensible, but this is very hard, so I'd like something that is at least a little bit exciting to drive and own. (I already have a couple of very silly cars so need a run around/commuting car).
My current thought is a 2002 Audi S3 with about 70,000 miles on it, or possibly a similar age and mileage BMW 330Ci.
I'm not a massive fan of front wheel drive cars, although could be persuaded otherwise if there's something good!
Any thoughts?
