Anybody else's seem to sit at just shy of 2k revs when starting up.

I understand modern cars have an automatic choke but it just strikes me as a little high?

Can move off at quite a speed without touching the accelerator.

Thanks in advance! smile

My bike used to rev at about 3k when cold.. the first few times I pulled away if you're not expecting it, it can catch you ou. In fact the first time I dropped it and cost about £500 damage to the fairing frown

what worries me more is that 'no oil in the engine' noise for a second or so when it starts.

I would have said that a 2k cold idle on a Mk3.5 was too high. Modern cars have much better ECUs so should be able to idle much lower than that. I would have though a high idle of around 1200 would be much more like it. Even my car with Adaptronic standalone ecu is tuned to be around 1100 cold...

Yours does that too!? I've had mine back to JCT loads about that noise. They even changed the starter motor too cos I was convinced it wasn't meant to make that noise!

Makes me feel a little better as that was the only thing im not happy about with the car. That and the fog lights and air con that arent working but im guessing thats the fuses, just havnt bothered to check yet.

It sits at about 1800 - 2k for about a minute or so then drops back down, just not used to cars sitting quite so high when they start up. Think my old Puma used to sit about 1200 rev for a little and the 306 even less but that was a diseasel getmecoat

Just want to check... For about 1/2 a second, when it first starts, it make a grinding sort of noise?

Checked it out this morning and you're right - blips to just under 1800 for a short time then drops to 1500 briefly before settling down to normal.

Yep smile

They do it when we collect them from the workshop to bring them round to the front for the customer to collect, by the time the customer has gone out to their car its usually just dropping to normal really.

Thats good then. Although I might have trouble convincing a potential buyer when I come to sell it one day. "Yeah it's meant to sound like that!"
