Can someone tell me where the oil filter is on my 2009 E91 330D? I've seen an under bonnet photo of a 2006 E90 330D and the oil filter is close to the dipstick and simply unscrews in a housing and lifted up - very easy. On my car, there is nothing in the same location. Have they relocated it lower down, under the engine maybe?

ok thanks, so it's on the right hand side of the engine as you look at the front of the car. It seems to be under the main engine cover on mine (the one on top of the engine with the BMW logo on it). Any idea how you remove that? On the pre 2008 models (pre LCI) there was a recess in the engine cover so that you could get at the oil filter without removing the cover. For some reason the later models after 2008 don't have this recess and so it looks like the cover has to come off.

Oh yes, the acoustic engine cover has to come off, pull up at the front, it is just mounted on rubber mounts, then pull towards you to unclip from the back, the filter housing is on the right hand side as you look at the engine.

ok, great - thanks. So the engine cover is just on some push fit rubber lugs? Any idea why they designed out the oil filter recess in the cover from 2008 onwards? seems a step backwards in convenience.

The whole engine is different, pre facelift using the m57n2 engine, and post using n57 which is all aluminium in construction.
