I sold a wireless controller on Amazon, received by the seller this morning.

The buyer is claiming the controller is not synchronising with his Xbox or will not turn on. I know for a fact that it is not faulty, I used it regularly and it worked perfectly the last time I used it, which was less than a week ago. Are there any steps I can suggest he try in order for the sycronisation to be succesful before I offer a refund?

Call his bluff,

Tell him to tell you the serial numbers of the controller as you have these recorded and will check them when it is returned.

If it is a genuine problem, it's likely to be a duff battery. If they sit unsed for a while they just stop working and dont hold charge (happened to me twice).

I had a similar a few weeks back with a mobile phone that I sold, knew it was like new and perfect when I sold it, guy had it 2 weeks and claimed it kept playing up, when I emailed him back saying I had the serial numbers for the phone, had it security marked and had the screws marked too he never came back to me again.

I make sure anything I sell 2nd hand now has some form of identifier, just to stop these con men.

Since I mentioned the serial number I've heard nothing.

I had a similar thing with forza 3 when I sold it on ebay. Bloke emailed saying didn't work as it was scratched. I knew it worked as was playing up until the day I sent it and had photos of the disk morning I sent it. Advised seller I would refund if he returned it to me but that I had used a magic marker type thing on it for security. Never heard anything from him again...

I just said this to him, making out as though I know what he is upto without accusing him. Haven't had a reply as yet.

Mark,

If you have tried the usual potential fixes (change of battery and full syncronisation) and the controller will not work and you wish to return it. Please could you provide me with the serial number of the control I sent to you, to make sure it matches with my records.

The reason I ask for this detail is because in the past I have had people try to return an item which was not the original one sent out. Obviously, ever since then I keep records and security mark each item I send out in case the situation should happen again. As I'm sure you will understand, you can never be too careful when selling online.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Paul.
