Manufacturing Consultant Jobs
Discussion
Hi All
I'm interested in moving from the factory environment, to a consultancy role based in London.
I'm researching compaines like McKinsey, Accenture, Doilette and there is a lot written online about the work/life balance. The model for McKinsey, for example seems to be 4 days out with clients, and usually friday in the office.
Currently I work 8am-6pm with a 30min commute, and spend 2-3 evenings in the gym, not getting home until 8-9pm.
Can anyone give me some feedback about how intense these sort of jobs really are, would it take over much more?

I used to work for PwC Consulting and they made lots of noise about what they called "3-4-5" which was 3 nights away, 4 days at the client, 5 days billed (one day at the office) IIRC. In 5 years there it never happened for me. Project "needs" take over and you end up working long hours all the time - you get well compensated for this but there's definitely a culture of "if you're not working until late in the evening everyday, you're not working hard enough". It was fine for me for a few years but other priorities took over eventually. From what I hear from friends, Accenture et al are the same.
