I'm a little dubious about the veracity of this story, but on face value I'm ecstatic that there is a teacher who isn't a paid-up member of the yoghurt knitters.

My OH is a teacher and you would not believe the laziness and incompetence that many of the teachers are guilty of.

Nothing ever happens of course. However, should any staff member
wander off message and deliver anything remotely un-pc in either class or staffroom, they will be out, no question.

There really is a climate of fear in schools. Of course, most teachers don't notice it or think it's normal because they are that way inclined. Anyone with a mind of their own struggles with their conscience when they have to deliver pc-claptrap to vulnerable young minds in their charge.

How is UK plc supposed to compete when the 'cannon fodder' is taught that competition is bad and everyone should be equal? Don't bother to try and be the best you can, just settle for what's average/easy/handed to you on a plate.

I hold no hope for the ConDems sending out some education stormtroopers to stamp on mediocrity, but that is what's required.

Any possible link here?

"on Thursday, she was visited in her office by Dr Irene Bishop, the headteacher of a neighbouring school who was drafted in as executive head of St Michael and All Angels

after its standards were condemned by Ofsted in April.

"She said the governors, the sponsors, who are the Church of England, and the staff were unhappy and she was unhappy," said Miss Birbalsingh. "She said she wanted to clam things down.

"She sent me home. I just grabbed my things and left. I wanted to get out before the change of lessons because I didn't want the kids to say 'Where are you going, Miss?'

"I felt very sad."

Dr Bishop faced criticism for allowing Tony Blair to launch Labour's 2001 general election campaign at St Saviour's and St Olave's School, also in Camberwell, where she remains the headteacher."

But you could bet your bottom Dollar that if the boot were on the other foot, and it was a labour leaning teacher forced out by predominantly Conservative leaning peers, it would be front page news - can you imagine the leftie screams of unfairness and ‘bullying Toffs’

But, of course, this same accusation can never to levelled at Labour sympathisers…..

My sister has worked in a number of schools in both the South West and South East and, largely, she feels teachers are a bunch of lazy whingers. She's taught in all sorts of schools - rough inner city places, as well as more priviledged establishments - and the variation in the backbone of the teaching staff is negligible.

In case there are any yoghurt knitters on here who think, since I am a fully paid-up, ruthless, red-in-tooth-and-claw PH capitalist, that - by extension - my younger sibling is too, disabuse yourself of that folly. She is the sort of person who regularly misplaces her mobile 'phone, is about as materialistic as Ghandi and barely has an aggressive bone in her body.

The major reason I stopped being a Governor at a local school was that it was blindingly obvious that there were a few really good, motivated and talented teachers there being held back by a bunch of by the book Muppets who were concentrating more on their progression through the ranks of the NUTters than their real job.

One of the final straws was when they tried to have one of the teachers disciplined for daring to stay late to change one of the classroom displays rather than ask one of the teaching assistants to do it during teaching hours...

I've complained to the BBC about their lack of coverage of a somewhat important issue.
