Z4M, CSL wheels and Exhaust query?

Thinking of buying a Z4M and fancy fitting a set of CSL rims also changing the back box for something to give a bit more aural delight.
So wondered what the effect on ride/handling by going up to the bigger rims?
Also is the back box different on the Z4M to the E46 M3? Which is the recommended exhaust?

I would do a little homework before you post. Anyhows backbox completly different on a Z4M. Sound has been re-engineered as well. You don't get that metallic rasp that you do with the E46. I liked that but I like this too. Exhaust note sounds more like a flat 6 porsche.. I would expect the 19inch CSL wheels to be even harder and give a stiffer ride than the std 18inch. But I've not driven one so I don't really know

finmax heres mine......... straight pipe setup, genuine CSL wheels shod with pilot sport rubber, and supercharged (460bhp) the sounds is gorgeous in person but difficult to replicate via video due to the sheer volumn, but here a vid and a pic or so for you to whet your whistle ;-0 handling with the ps2 was better than stock for me, the stock tyre really is pants, i can really lean on this setup on the track, car behaves perfectly, CSLS look awesome on this car imo and should have came stock, they fit with no issues at all, no rubbing.

)Beedub, lovely looking car and fair play to you for all the work you have done. I agree the CSL's really do look the business on the Z4M, my concern would be the ride. I have owned a number of M3's and while the 19's look fab they did tend to be very hard on the road and spoil the ride, espec up here in North Scotland where I live.

ill be completly honest with you, my car rides no different than on the stock 18s, remember your reducing unspring mass here also (with genuine CSLs), their ride is no harsher or harder imo, the only thing i noticed is the car follows the ruts and ridges in the road more, other than that its a plus all round!!Edited by finmac on Sunday 17th October 17:56

i have got genuine 19" CSL's on mine (still have the originals) with PS2's and the ride is alot different. It is alot harder, and more hard work. But change the Springs (i changed mine to Eibach) and the ride is absolutely brilliant, how it should of been all along (imo).

I'm yet to hear an exhaust that sounds 'nice' on the Z4M...They all sound obnoxious imo!. Supersprint & RPi being two! I think if anything i would go Custom...Cheaper and the note can be tailored for loudness...

When I changed my wheels I noticed no real difference to be honest.
The ride can be improved by fitting eibach springs.
With regards to the exhaust I agreed with Ali, but last night I saw a video on youtube with the lad from Cyprus following a TT and S2000 around teh island. Sounded quite good if I'm honest. Maybe someone can link it for me.

If you are considering CSLs I would also look at the cost of 18" BBSs in the same width / offsets as the CSLs.
My experience is with an e46 m3 with KW suspension, the extra width and different offset of the CSL front rims def reduces understeer but it also tramlines and is a pain on country roads (prob ok on track).
I'm now running standard 18" rims with 12mm spacers on the front which gets close to the CSLs but without the harshness and tram lining.

Unfortunately you can't get an exhaust that keeps the stock tone/feel but makes it maybe 50% louder in the top half of the rev range.
They all sound a bit crude to me, and drown out the engine.
I'd love to get some 19" wheels for mine but genuine CSLs are like gold dust and being completely ignorant of this stuff - how the hell can you tell whether replica or other alternatives are any good?

And just for clarity, genuine CSL wheels are in fact BBS wheels. It would be a sweeping statement to label all aftermarket wheels with the same brush. Some are good and some are bad.
I went with OEM as I don't do compromises and I want the wheel that BMW feel happy about fitting to their CSLs as standard.

alot of after market alloys are much better than oem, the likes of rays, volk. BBS, all quality stuff but replicas...... mmmmm another story, soft cheap metal, heavy, easily mishapen...... stick with quality brands and youll be fine.
