Skye - October 2010

A few from our trip to Skye this month.
Wildlife was disappointing but the scenery was something else! Well out of my comfort zone doing landscape type stuff but was pleased with some of them.
The sun shone briefly on our way up there then got really rubbish! First few days were very windy and wet but the rest of the time it was hot enough for just t-shirts.

The obligatory Hairy Coo!
We saw 1 otter!
Shag anyone?
Baby Gannet!
Plenty of Rock Pippits about.
Ruined Church near where we stayed.
Water at the local beach was as still as a still thing!
And we saw 1 seal....and, yes, it was a long way off!
Got down to just short of 150 pics from over 1500!

Mull is great.... very different to Skye - a lot more 'trendy' shops and much louder nightlife. (This is all relative mind!)
The brightly coloured Tobermory on Mull is well worth a visit. (half way down: http://www.stevecarter.com/harris-2007/hebrides.ht... )

We've been going to Mull for donkey's years. Not been this year for the first time in many years and missing it. Hence, can't decide whether next trip will be back to Mull or do a bit more of Skye.
In terms of driving, thought Skye was far more (even possibly too) civilised - too many proper 2 lane roads!!!
We were actually on the cliff top at the local beach....hadn't gone out wildlife spotting particularly (as it's sparse anyway). It was an extremely windy day. He appeared out of the sea and came ashore to the freshwater stream running from the hills to the sea. Wind changed direction and he shot off back into the sea. We were a fair distance away. Couldn't have got any closer anyway due to being on the cliffs and he being on the beach below! Even went to the Otter Haven and saw.......nothing! Few gulls, 1 heron - rubbish!

Apologies, you obviously now Mull well. Skye is (by far) my least fav island. Do you know the outer Hebrides - they have REALLY crap roads! In terms of driving, thought Skye was far more (even possibly too) civilised - too many proper 2 lane roads!!!
