Ive read the brochure but as I always find that the mpg figures are missleading does anyone on here have some real life figures on mpg for a 520d E60 automatic ?

I'm hoping that it will return on average 40mpg+ ?

Hi Chipper.

I average 35 MPG on my E60 520d - and I do not drive efficiently, a bit lead footed - I also tend to keep the gear shift in DS mode. I drive the car to and from work daily (about 9 miles), do the occasional autobahn trip and do various other general driving (about 10-15,000 miles a year).

I think for the size of car, and the way I drive it, it returns good MPG. I suspect with a little bit of effort it would be easy to squeeze 40+ MPG out of it.

Hope this helps!

Rich.

My LCI 535d averaged 38mpg, i'd say a 520d should easily top that.

I had a 335d dms that averaged 34mpg and my current discovery 4 is averaging 27 mpg. I'm trying to balance the costs of getting a work vehicle that is truly econimical as im covering 32000 mpy.

Ideally I need a vehicle to do an Average of 50 mpg but I believe this might be a push even for the new 320ed engine ?

Thx for the replies

My 535d was remapped to 340BHP and got that economy - but it was the efficient dynamics engine which added 4-5mpg over previous engine.

I think the 320ED could do well in excess of 50mpg on average. I'd a new Passat Bluemotion 2.0TDI CR there for nine months and i was getting 63-65mpg easy per fill - the 320ED is easily better than that.

Be aware though that putting 32K pa on any car will destroy its value come resale time - it might be cheaper to look at a Golf / Passat bluemotion and have something for the weekend AND still be better off (i bought my Passat Bluemotion brand new in January for £15650)

The E60 520d ( 59' ) I have is doing over 50 mpg for me regularly, although it's a manual and most of my miles are motorway. On the motorway 90 will result in approx 48mpg, 80 seems to generate approx 53 and 70 gives 56. Lots of town driving produces over 40mpg.

It is by far and away the most efficient car I've owned balancing mpg/performance/space, however it is a little lacking in soul. I was concerned about the performance but it's more than adequate for the car, the only fly in the ointment for me is the engine note.. but 50+mpg out of a big reasonably rapid car is outstanding.

Those figures are from brimming the tank - not the remarkably close trip computer after 12000 miles.

Just traded in my '07 LCI 520d Auto saloon after 3 years of ownership and 38,000miles. Average mpg 45.5 according to the on board computer.

My 2006 pre LCI 520D manual is averaging 47 mpg brim to brim. On my commute to work (10 miles A road, 35 miles dual carriageway and 12 miles M4) I get anywhere between 50 and 55 mpg driving at or around the speed limit.

I do try and be economical! I have driven at a more realistic speed (ahem), and still got 48 mpg.

I can't believe how good the mpg is on such a reasonably big car. An LCI model is 10% better I believe.

Hi, I just picked up a 320d ED on Friday. Reset the trip computer in aldershot and when I'd finished the journey in sheffield it read 68.9 mpg. I was driving reasonably sensibly, sticking the cruise at a genuine 70mph and 50mph in the roadwork sections of the m1. Pretty impressive though.
