engine rebuilds and half time bearing

Hi I'm thinking about buying a tuscan. How often do they need an engine rebuild? Is it every so often or if its done once should it be fine? The car I'm looking at had a full rebuild at 24k now on 53k. Also the seller has said that the half time bearing needs done as it is noisy?

Any advice would be very much appreciated

Its hard to say TBH some have had several rebuilds and some none. I went for a car with a warranted rebuild to play safe. It means I only have to worry about everything other than the engine!

Who did rebuild? TVR Power reckon theirs are good for 100k miles. Others only give a warranty for a year or less.

Hi the advert says that it had a full engine rebuild at 24k at TVR's bristol lane facility? But that was nearly 30k miles ago and now needs this half time bearing?

The car is on pistonheads for 10999 its a 2001 x red rose

I guess it depends what parts TVR used in the rebuild and how long ago. £11k is cheap enough to allow you room for a build. Look at clutch too as that's not a cheap job either

As above, a lot depends when the rebuild was carried out. The same parts were used in some of the factory rebuilds hence the reason why there are cars that have had more than one rebuild. Some say the problem was sorted late 2003 but there are no guarantees.

Also depends on how the car has been treated. It needs warming up properly before giving it the beans.

I personally wouldn´t put much miles on it with a knackered half time bearing. If it fails you might be looking at a new engine. It is an engine out job to replace. And at that point you might want to have a look at the other components as well, like valve seats, guides, followers, head gasket, oil pumps, relief spring, etc...

Anyway, as was said before, the asked price leaves room for a lot of work to get a proper motor.

I need to ask. What is a half time bearing and what does it sound like when its on the way out?

It is the bearing of the shaft, where the upper and lower chain meet. If that fails, you might ust have a guess what happens.
