Dorchester roadworks

Due to catch a ferry from Weymouth on Wed 27th at 9.00 am. We have to be there by 8.00am, and the ferry company have advised that there are roadworks on the A35 in the Dorchester area, as well as upgrades in the Weymouth urban districts.
Are there major delays, and will it be easier assuming less traffic due to half term?
Would I do best to divert to Wareham from Poole, and if so, is this route too busy?
The B3390 from the A35 also looks like a possibility.
Thanks in advance.

B3390/A353 would be a wise move but Weymouth is also having big traffic problems which likely will back up but I'd definitely take the B3990, first turn off the Bere Regis Puddletown bypass, for Crossways/Warmwell then Osmington then Weymouth and A353. Follow the seafront and you should get to the ferry without the roadworks but allow time.

What he said - the route past Moreton and in on the A353 is _always_ the best way in to Weymouth from the east, turn off the A35 on the brow of the hill about two miles after Bere Regis, then left and right at two T junctions in rapid succession.
ETA: if you're coming from Poole anyway then going via Wareham makes sense.
It also brings you out on the right side of the lagoon for the ferry port, no queueing past the station.
For my sins I look after the plants on the Condor Ferries so have to drive there quite frequently.
