I'm a civil servant. And and engineer (albeit a trainee).

Which of these occupations would give me the lowest insurance quote?

(Oh to be a farmer again....)

Try each one for quotes and see for yourself?
Not hugely helpful but i don't have a straight answer.

Depends on the insurer, they all rate differently.

Got halfway through then remembered the barrage of unsolicited emails and phone calls that crop up whenever you do anything insurance related on the internet.

I was hoping one of PH's resident insurance experts would happen to be breezing past...

Use a mailinator address just to get the numbers then put your real address in when you buy.

When I put mechanic it was £50 more a year then if I put student (technically both) so I don't know if that helps.

Go to moneysavingexpert.com, there is a insurance occupation checker which will do what you need.

Student tends to come up as one of the cheaper options in my experience. If you can legitimately use it, that's the one I'd go for.

Get a quote from Frizzell using the CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association) discount. If you do take a policy you have to join CSMA but it's only about £15 and it includes legal cover so you don't need to pay to include that on the policy.

Although, it's through LV= and they don't rate on occupation anyway. They exclude the high risk ones (professional sports etc) but my daughter's husband is a Hotelier and they live on the premises, yet her premium (he's a named driver) wasn't loaded at all and the policy even includes business use by him.

I've found LV= to be good for me and my family (and they're very good to deal with, which has some value) but other people have found them way out on price.

Gah. Forgot all about this. Thanks for the replies. Don't think LV will like the mini, but I'll check csma when the pug comes up for renewal (if I still have a job by then).

But yes that does make me a civil service engineer.
