Photographers Wanted

Land Rover back TPOTY competition

Land Rover is sponsoring the ‘Spirit of Adventure’ category of Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY), the major annual competition that celebrates the very best travel photography.

‘Spirit of Adventure’ challenges photographers to put together a portfolio of four images that capture the thrill of adventure travel. In 2003 photographer Martin Hartley won this category with a breathtaking portfolio that featured travel images from the Arctic. (Martin’s winning photographs can be seen on www.tpoty.com , in the 2003 images section.)

The 2004 ‘Spirit of Adventure’ prize is suitably adventurous. The winner will be sent on a once in a lifetime expedition for two people with Land Rover’s global conservation partner Biosphere Expeditions to the Tatra mountains in Slovakia. The expedition will monitor critically endangered chamois (mountain goat) populations and their interrelationship with large predators, such as wolves and bears.

To prepare them for their expedition, they will spend a day at one of Land Rover’s off-road driving centres, receiving expert tuition from the UK’s leading 4x4 manufacturer to help them get to grips with off-road driving.

The winner of this category also receives a custom-built website from professional web designers Resolutions, and Adobe CS Collection professional imaging software, bringing the value of the prize to approximately £8,000.

Photographers can enter as many categories as they like, as many times as they like. To compete for the title of Travel Photographer of the Year 2004 they must enter at least two different portfolio categories. Entry costs from £5 for one portfolio category or up to four entries in the Single Image category, is completely free for under-17s and there is a discounted flat rate fee of £5 for students.

Entries are now open, and close on September 17, 2004. Full information and entry forms are available from www.tpoty.com or by sending a stamped addressed envelope to PO Box 2716, Maidenhead, Berkshire SL6 7ZN, England.
