Toyota mr2 engine swap, help!
Discussion
Im swapping the engine from my mark 2 mr2 non turbo with a 4.2 V8 audi A8 engine.. i know this sounds very optimistic that it will fit... but it does fit!! the thing im having trouble with is that the engine is on an all wheel drive system.. plus it was originally placed in the front of the car..
so how do i connect this engine to only the rear axle? i've heard that a porsche boxster transaxle may fit the audi a8 engine? but i currently have the engine set as longitudinal in the car with out the gearbox atattched! help please!

There was an artilce in PPC a wjile back about a guy who put the 4.2 in his Lotus Espirt.- turns out i need an audi a4 gearbox! sorted!
Car is here http://jalopnik.com/376281/maniac-transplants-audi...
He used a a4 diesel gearbox as it was built to handle the torque
just found the article http://www.lotusespritworld.com/ERoadtests/Practic...
Head over to www.twobrutal.co.uk, if somebody there can't help you nobody can. Good luck with the project. Oh and get a build thread going in Readers Car.

Some very nice looking projects
Love MR2's!thanks very much guys for all this info and links! really appreciate it. I like the idea of putting my project on some sort of website for people to watch and comment on, any recommend websites?
And just done some measuring; the gear box should fit snugly into the mr2. not sure what to gearbox to get; can a manual gearbox fit onto an a8 engine that originally had an auto 4 speed connected up to it? or should i be safe and just go auto?

hmm, i was looking through carfolio at the pre-2000 audi a8's with V8 engines, and they only come with the option of an automatic gearbox.. :/ http://www.carfolio.com/search/results/?terms=audi...
think it's still possible to connect one up?

This is, AFAIK, wrong. The a8 owners club has a '96 a8, 4.2 manual. So it can be done!think it's still possible to connect one up?
okay! i'll trust you! im thinking a diesel a4/a6 6 speed manual box.
