Just collected my first Cerb, a 4.5 and noticed the idle speed is a bit high (about 1100 or 1200 rpm) Had a quick look under the wiper panel but couldn't immediately see how to adjust it......HelP!

Also noticed that it seems to run a little warm in slow moving traffic (95+) but os okay when on the move. What temps should I expect?

Thanks chaps

Can't help with the idle speed however the temperature in traffic sounds about right.

Firstly, welcome to the (mad) House wavey

Thottle cable follows a tortuous path into the Engine bay but eventually finds its way in through a grommet, covered in sticky, black sealant from the interior driver's arch. Then goes directly to the rear, offside airbox bracket.

In order to allow easier access, it's best to remove the F2/Battery cover (2 x 4mm allen keys) and the o/s airbox(Mine has 3 x 4mm allens, plus each has two washers, but yours may still have 4 x the air hose retaining junilee-type clips) You will find this so common-an-activity on so many functions under the Cerb Bonnet that you will be able to do it blindfold hehe)
Adjustment is of the normal, double-nut on extrenal-threaded cable type.

When I bought mine, tickover was 800 rpm. I have since raised it to 900 rpm.

After owning her for a few years I changed the ECU to Jool's "Cool Chip" which cuts the fans in at 92 and 98 Deg. I have felt much more comfortable since.

Good Luck thumbup

Even with my butterflies fully shut (or against their end stops) my idle is still around 1000-1100RPM

I've set everything up by the book, but I cant get the idle any lower.

I'm going to have the valve clearances and cam timing checked shortly - as i think the car 'should' be quicker...

Tick over should be around 925rpm iirc. The idle speed is physically controlled by the stop which sits under the arm that the throttle cable pulls on. You need to get the engine hot, get the air flow as close to balanced as you can between the banks then set the pots.

In that case you must have an air leak somewhere, or possibly a bent butterfly?

I checked air flow on the butterflies and they all balanced...

Basically I set the pots at 19% with the butterflies on their end stop with the engine fully cooking.

With this I get good adaptives throughout

Air leak the far side of the butterflies? I am not familiar with the 4.5 throttle arrangement but on the 4.2 there is a heat barrier with O rings on either side where the inlet manifold fits to the cylinder head. An air leak there will up the idle speed without altering the air flow through the throttle body.

Good point will have a look next time. I note there are some barriers for sale on fleabay as I type.

Thanks
