Cold weather tyres for performance car - TS810s or PA3's?

Hi there


Got an EVO X and currently running Yokohama Advan AD08 which are truly immense in the dry.

However now its getting cold, on wet days they are like a bar of soap in the shower.


So I am looking for a performance tyre for cold weather use that excels in the wet and dry in temperatures around -5c - 5c, not that bothered about them been amazing in snow, its more ideal they still work well in the dry and are good in the wet on those cold mornings.

So far the two favourites are Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 and Continental TS810s which are both performance with winter tyres.

Anyone here used either of the above, whats your feedback good or bad?

I have the ADO8's on my EVO.

I have found them to be good in the wet. A lot better than the AO46's that I had on when I got the car from new.

I don't tend to drive balls out in the wet though so I guess you may drive a little different to me in those conditions.

I have a set of Vredestein wintrac xtreme's on some spare wheels ready for next month.

Good reviews on these tyres.

Gotta say I've read nothing but bad things about the Vredsteins when used in anything but super cold wet days and snow. They dont perform great at all in the dry, even when cold, so be interesting to hear your feedback.

Ive been looking at the Michelin Pilot Alpin or Conti TS810s as they are designed more as a cold weather tyre than an all out winter/snow tyre.

I've got some Pirelli Sotto Zeros for my S8.

Last three years I've used Yokohama Advan Winters on an RS6.

No complaints with either.

I promise to give you an honest report on them.

Bear in mind though that the tread blocks on winter tyres are very flexible to enable them to disperse the snow. The downside to this is the tread will tend to flex more and give you a slight squidgy feel over a high performance summer tyre.

This. I had them on my Lancer last year, they were better in every way, and in all conditions than the Toyo T1R on my summer wheels.
