What is your impression of 911 drivers?
Discussion
Hello all, I have a 911 and was just wondering what the rest of the motoring community thinks of us? Is there a different impression of those who drive diffent 911s?
I guess we all have our stereotypes of early imprezza drivers, M3 drivers, TVR boys, etc...but that's a different thread!

i dont wave cos they never wave back. I guess we all have our stereotypes of early imprezza drivers, M3 drivers, TVR boys, etc...but that's a different thread!
My impression is usually reserved until I see what kind of guy's driving it. There are two main categories of people who often buy 911s - there is, of course, the midlife crisis stereotype, and then there are the much rarer breed who've bought it not because it's a Porsche, but because it's an excellent sports car. How many driven wheels the car in question has tends to help you work it out if you can't see the driver
So if I see one, experience tells me that odds are it's someone flashing cash, but could well be a kindred spirit with just more cash to spend than I do!
In the eyes of the general non-car-enthusiast public, though, I'd say they're not smiled upon. Most will see them as w
kermobiles, penis extensions, etc, except for those who are easily wowed by any sports car-looking thing.
Depends whose impression you want, I guess!
ETA Disclaimer - Entirely my personal opinions here, anyone offended can tell me how Audi drivers are a million times worse

Not too bothered about the driver so long as they use the car the way it should be used!! Nothing worse than seeing someone driving a Porsche to be seen in it rather than giving it some on a country lane as happened to me the other day near Preston when a grey GT2 RS came flying past me at an impossible speed.

Saw my first 911 being driven hard today. Unfortunately he had just started the car and nailed it from cold. Carrera 4S, middle aged gent driving, through a local beauty spot.
I'd agree with what MacSam says- lot's of people trying to be flash interspersed with a sprinkling of enthusiasts.

Slow if the one I was playing with today is anything to go by I guess we all have our stereotypes of early imprezza drivers, M3 drivers, TVR boys, etc...but that's a different thread!

My impression is they have more money than sense, not saying they are bad cars, but there are better cars available.
For instance Engine wise a 3.2 BMW engine is better than a 3.2 Porsche engine.
Each to their own, I have a friend who thinks they are the best, not to say they are a bad car just i think overpriced and the early cars are terribly dated inside.
My opinion of course.
Edited:: All this said I am glad there are people with different views to me as they are great cars

I think to the average person who knows s
t-all about the different models of any car, the 911 driver is a dick showing off. I'd generally view a GT2/3 driver as a proper enthusiast and a Carerra 4 driver as a middle-aged banker bang in the middle of his mid-life crisis and only one more bonus away from a Harley. But of course, all assumptions can be incorrect.

The 911 doesn't have a 3.2 engine!For instance Engine wise a 3.2 BMW engine is better than a 3.2 Porsche engine.

BMW do make some of the best production engines in the world, but as a whole car, I'd take a modern 911 over a modern BMW.
Out of curiousity, you say there are better cars available - like what?
I would also disagree that they are overpriced - a ferrari 458 is 1.5 x the price of a 911 Turbo, as is the Gallardo!
