On now.

I'm waiting to see if they cut out the dogs name.

For those that don't know:

The young man, the driver of the lead bomber, had a dog and in today PC world the dog name is non PC.
This young man flew off to almost certain death to save us from who knows what.

What was his dogs name?

.

If anyone finds the fact that
Wing Commander Guy Penrose Gibson VC, DFC, DSO 1 bar
named his dog
is wrong may I suggest you are wrong.

I've preview'd my post and the dog name is censored.

I'm going to do something that that I hope the mods/Galick/etc. will accept:

The dogs name, for those that don't know, is/was n11gger.

With out people who had dogs named N11gger I couldn't post this and you wouldn't be able to read it.

You are being controversial for controversy sake to spam the word . Well done you - wonder if we get the jungle bunny\wog\coon bullst comments like the last thread?

BTW you missed the Legion of Merit and a bar of the DFC and did the raids have any effect on germany's industrial output enabling you to post?

Garlick has a dog called N11 GGER?
It must widen his list of interesting private plates.

It's a real shame that then name of a dog seems to have become the most discussed aspect of this mission.

Can we not debate the pros and cons of the raid and its effects without geting bogged down in what is essentially an irrelevant point?

Ok then. If we have to be PC, does this mean we cannot talk about the dancing girls??

The thing that's always struck me about the whole endeavour is just how long the MoD hung on waiting for results during the development, rather than canning it.

If you mean the cabaret act with the spotlights, the TV show said they made that bit up.

Missed the last thread. But who are jungle bunny, wog and coon? Surely not other inappropriately named dogs owned by the Wing Commander or his pilots?

Gadzooks, it seems very much as though our brave boys were in fact a bunch of terrible racists.

There is no doubt that 617 crew members occasionaly went to stsge shows.

But the story that the use of converging lights to detrmine height was inspired by watching spotlights in a theatre was indeed made up for the film. The technique was already in use by Coastal Command for dropping depth charges - which was, indeed, what an Upkeep Bomb/Mine really was.
