I have a 1989 350I with the Stewart Warner gauges (the speedo and rev counter, specifically) that start from zero at the top right hand side) and recently the speedo packed up.

I replaced the speedo head with another bought from Ebay, but it has just one illumination bulb holder (my old one had two) so lights up differently from the rev conter, so maybe from a different model..?

From a visual inspection it seems that the square drive from the cable in the back of the old speedometer has become round, so letting the cable spin without turning the gauge.

Does anyone know if this is repairable at a SW gauge specialist, or elsewhere...?

I've tried searching on t'interweb but only found places in America!

Thanks,

Martin.

I'm considering changing mine over to electronic - my gauge works following the drill test method - I'm going to change the cable over next to see what happens. In answer to your question - there are places that repair gauges dotted about on the net based in the UK...

Speedy cables did my rev counter. (If I could find the sodding thing.) When I took it there, there were all sorts of dial orientated porn (shiny stuff) in the display cabinets.
