Mpg?

(a bit of background - I currently do approx 750 miles a week; working in London with family home in Pembrokeshire).

I currently drive a 1990 325i touring (see sig picture) and although she's done 214,000 miles still returns 29-30mpg.

It's all M3/M4 apart from the last 7 miles which is B roads.

I drive past a Noble near Carmarthen (parked) in a shell garage and it's really, really got me thinking.

Would it be possible to do that sort of mileage in a Noble and if so - how much is going to cost me?! And could a Noble handle that much mileage per week?

Let's forget the depreciation for the moment - I spend so much time in the car that I really want every journey to be an event as it were.

I drove my E36 m3 everday and got 29-30mpg average and she had done 160k... i used the noble the same for first 2 years and got exactly the same mpg as the M3 so around 30ish...

Thats not highest figure while driving with wind behind etc... its the average of each fuel tank divided by miles, I monitored it closely as I had to put the mileage and receipts through the company books.

Blimey - sure you had a 3L V6 twin-turbo in there? I do the same (calc mpg from mileage and fuel used) on pretty well every tank of petrol and I get around 23-24mpg on a motorway run and thats driving judiciously. I don't have binding brakes, tyre pressures are as recommended and AFR is spot on for the car. If you're generating between 300-450 BHP that power has to come from somewhere; fuel.
Driving on track it's nearer to 8-10mpg.

My weekend trip to wales had my fuel economy at 23mpg, whereas my mate chasing me in his mx5 got 19! Hehehehehe.

I reckon I get about 18, but that's just tooling about, no motorways to speak of.

28 on the trip back from Le Mans to Le Harvre cruising at a steady 80.

Mind you, at 750 miles a week, it would need a service every 8 weeks @ about £800 a time.

I even got average of 30mpg on my return trip from lemans this year... and it was running 480bhp of Yellowshed power.

Point is you shouldnt be using using boost or fuel when cruising as you don't need power when cruising only when your nailing it.

If your thinking along the lines of Noble = good mpg = I'll buy it, forget it, you buy a Noble due to the dangly bits between your legs, and how it makes you feel, end off

I'm pretty sure 750 miles a week would kill it a lot in many different ways.

That's not what they're for. Buy a noble + a shed car.

Some people can buy it for those reasons, others are now able to consider some of the cheaper ones if they stretch the budget a bit.

Those people will need to bear in mind that while it's much more reliable than a TVR, they should still put aside £2k per year for fixing things.

They'll do 22mpg in average hands in average conditions, but I don't think they'll like 750 miles per week (nearly 40,000 miles per year??? Really? In a noble?)

750 miles a week is a big ask for a Noble, it WILL require a lot of attention and servicing.
My M400 was always in the low 20's MPG wise unless a really long slow cruise,then you could realise 28-ish.
I'd have thought a Nissan GTR would be a better bet if it's performance you're looking for.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Much appreciated. Maybe I could buy a diesel runner (focus or something) and just do one or two trips a month in it.

I just want something that'll do the miles and be interesting to drive too. What appeals about a Noble is the experience, the sheer event that is getting in it and driving her. That and the fact that people get out of your way!

So it's a stter then, for the majority of the miles with noble for occasional trips and weekend fun!
