Watched and listened to the SLS up close and personal at VLN 8. It is an awesome feeling that noise gives you in the pit of your stomach when you are only a few yards away.
Normally in a race car you can't hear much above the engine and gearbox whine but the Frikadelli 997 Cup onboard camera manages to pick up the sound of the Merc just before the start of the first competitive race the SLS took part in. With the SLS having qualified 3rd on the grid things were looking promising for a break in the normal stranglehold Olaf Manthey and his Porsche cup cars usually have on the VLN. The Maoam Corvette was in pole, Haribo/Manthey Cup second, The SLS was third and Pistonheads favourite fraulein, Sabine Schmitz and the Frikadelli Porsche were starting in fourth place. With Manthey running two 997 cup cars for Haribo, there must be a lot of money in boiled cow bones . . .
For those of you who like Sabine, a video of her doing what she does second best first and then what she does best, second. Watch the video at 2:22 to see what happens to the tussle going on for first place . . .

From another angle, the presumably stalled SLS is a road block and accident waiting to happen. Unfortunately for the R8 LMS following, which is sandwiched between cars either side, it ends up in the rear of the SLS and subsequently retires from the race after the second corner.
