INSURANCE PREMIUMS
Discussion
The other half had a knock in the Tamora over the weekend - his fault. We have protected NCD and have never claimed on the insurance before. Does anyone know whether if we claim on the insurance, our premium is likely to be loaded up at renewal (despite the protected NCD)? We are not sure whether to go through the insurance or not - the cost of repairs is approx. £1,500 and our excess is £500.
Sorry, to hear about your knock! Yes the premium will go up, probably not too much however, alot less than if you'd not protected your NCD and made a claim. If you want to know how much your premium is likely to rise go onto tesco.com motor insurance section and input all your details, it will ask you if you,ve had a claim in the last 3 years, go thro' whole process to get an on-line quotation. At least you'll know which is the best route financially. Tescos also extremely competitive rates
Hi Sonia.
Sorry to hear about the knock.
Answer to your question is, not necessarally. See thread below.

So if it goes up then what's the point in having the NCD?
All NCD does is give you a discount of blah% depending on how many years you have accrued. Your actual premium is worked out (apparently) on your relative risk, this takes into account claims made etc... Therefore NCD will discount on this premium.
There you go, clear as mud.
