driving in a restricted area
Discussion
mate of mine was recently pulled by teh Bib in Leeds for driving down a restricted area (I think it was a bus lane)
He was fined £30 and told it was non endorsable.
Now, there is no question he did indeed drive down this road, but its his case that the signs were poorly displayed (behind the traffic light so you were already committed to the turn when you saw the one on the wall) and one on the ground itself.
He is a bit peeved by this ticket and feels like objecting to it. He complained to the Bib at the time and afterwards in writing. Off the record, a PC from the station advised that if he were to object it was unlikely they would pursue it further. Can this offence become endorsable at any stage? any advice from our Bib on PH?

If it was a £30 Ticket that was given then if it goes to Court then it will be an increased fine if found Guilty.
If theres no doubt that he drove down the street (which is the case otherwise a ticket would not have been issued) then i would just pay up.
It could have been a lot worse as the £30 FPN(N) is the minimum (apart from a warning of course).
Playing Devils Advocate here.....next time he might not be so lucky.

Schnozz,
Surely for £30, worth paying up then asking questions / complaining to the council afterwards. Sounds unlikely that the £30 will end up back where it should (in your mates pocket) but at least the signage could be sorted.
OTOH if it's obvious (and you have photos to prove it) that you wouldn't see the signs until you were in the restricted zone then worth fighting.

But if the signs did not comply with the law, why should he simply pay up? Life needs rules. People and organisations need to abide by the rules, else it is a shambles.
People "putting these things down to experience" or "taking it on the chin" is exactly the wrong attitude.

i agree, tis what I have said to him. Dont think he has photos but is asking a mate to take some - he is unfamiliar with the area as he lives in Southampton.

indeed, he is a solicitor so £30 isnt the issue, its the principal that has pissed him off.

Which road was it?
sorry, no idea. Apparently its a main road in town with parking for a shopping centre. There are 4 - 5 sets of traffic lights in a row and a no right turn sign up ahead (he needed to turn right) so he turned right at the lights prior to this and was immediately pulled over by Bib. Apparently what you are supposed to do is drive to the top and come back around and then turn left into the road
