Govt Sponsors Superbikes
Think! British Superbikes Series
Road Safety Minister David Jamieson today announced the signing of a deal to sponsor this year's British Superbikes Championships. As well as track side branding opportunities for the 'Think!' campaign the deal also gives access to riders for safety promotional purposes.
In 2002, 347 bikers were killed and 2,464 seriously injured in accidents on non built-up roads. In many of these accidents no other vehicles are involved. Bikers make up around one sixth of road deaths but account for only up one percent of total road traffic. The sponsorship deal will use the strapline "Think! Keep racing for the track ". David Jamieson said:"I am pleased to announce the signing of this sponsorship deal. The British Superbikes Championship is a major event for bikers in the UK and will attract large audiences, both at the events themselves and on television. "
"Leisure sports bike riding is on the increase. As bikers take advantage of rural roads to test their vehicle's - and their own - full potential, the risks and terrible consequences can be far too high. This deal provides an excellent opportunity to get the 'Think!' campaign's bike safety messages directly to those most at risk ".
The deal will see the races branded as the "Think! British Superbikes Series" and a stand from Bikesafe will be in attendance at each meeting.

For Antipodeans do they do a line of thongs with toe sliders. Ah....I remember the old days of summer TT (Tavern to Tavern) racing when you would lift your toes as you cranked her into a corner to avoid that road rash.
But seriously...
I know we sometimes give 'er a bit of a handfull and find the road a tad short for the brakes, but i sometimes wonder about these bike crashes with "no other vehicle involved".
What about bikers swerving to avoid animals or running over badgers or whatever. (Kangaroos and emus here in Oz). Nearly forgot dogs.
I remember touring in the country and seeing a car with caravan rounding a corner on the wrong side of the road,coming towards me.
Perhaps the driver was pouring a coffee.
I couldn't help thinking,just a couple of seconds and I could have been banking into that corner when that turkey was there, and I wouldn't have had anywhere to go.
So I would have run off the road and brushed up against a few trees and rocks and probably been OK?
