I know this might sound daft but I've just taken delivery of a second hand Clio 172 which some eejit decided to fit some Triangle tyres to. These are on the front wheels the rears still have Michelin pilot sport 2's hence I am getting some weird handling characteristics (BAD understeer).

I was wondering therefore how do you guys suggest I destroy these tyres? They have a good amount of tread left so I don't just want to change them straight off.

Any ideas?

you could put some proper tyres on and ebay the old ones, maybe someone will buy them for a few quid?

you could yank the handbrake on and bounce the car off the limiter doing a sik burnout until they caught fire/melted

i'd probably er toward option one to be honest...

Swap them back to front and learn to "drift" around the local car park for a while?

Definitely would be my choice, although depending on the population of your area, people may have something to say smile

Drive to empty carpark late at night

Apply hand brake hard and chock rear wheels if needed

get in and start engine

select first gear

rev to at least 4k

dump clutch and enjoy a very smokey time,

make sure someone videos it!!!!

My mundaneo had Triangles fitted to the front too. Quite an apt name, really... You'd never guess they were round when trying to drive on them frown

And they seem to be made of titanium too - low grip in the dry, NO grip in the wet, understeer like it's going out of fashion, and barely any sign of wear after almost 20k miles...

I like the 6000rpm drop the clutch smile unfortuantely I haven't had the car long enough to ascertain the health of the clutch to perform such an operation. I suppose that taking the old tyres off and selling them is sensible and would go towards the new tyres cost, doesn't sound like the funnest option so far.

Just change your tyres as by the time you've destroyed them you'll have probably shot your clutch as well....

Without potentially ttting your car up you can't.
I'd never consider doing something like that to a car I owned

Don't do anything too brutal if you're unsure of the car, just drive like an utter chav and rag the arse off the poor things. Do silly too-much-throttle stuff that you'd only normally do in the wet, etc, safe in the knowledge that it's costing you nothing but useless rubber you want rid of anyway!

My Escort didn't get this luxury when its tyres needed to be wasted. Full throttle starts in the dry to move forward in traffic light queues got me some funny looks hehe

Thanks guys, the swapping them round is a great idea! I'll probably do that, I've got a friendly garage that'll do that for me no worries, may not get rid of them but will be entertaining in the scottish snow biggrin

I suppose you're right, I've never knowingly ttted a car. My first car (corsa 1.2, it was a bd) I ragged a little till I realised I couldn't afford to use it like that. It's just I can't cope with the thought of getting shot of what are legal tyres for no other reason than I don't like them.

Just change them asap. On another fourm I frequent a member had a set of decent tyres and "was" going to change them until he wrapped his car round a wall in the 2 day's before he was going to replace them

Blimey, what an odd bunch of suggestions from Pistonheads. Normally this place berates people who thrash their cars around car parks.confused

Anyway, I would get signed up to do some sort of airfield day. Put the crappy ones on the rear and have a blast throwing it round some cones. You'd have more fun, it's legal and you can learn a lot more than in Tesco car park. biggrin

My housemate did the same. Got an Astra with 4 freshly fitted Triangles. Nearly went off the road twice in a week. Ordered 4 Bridgestones to be fitted on Saturday. Had to go to Dublin on Thursday evening, hit a little surface water, spun out, killed a lamp post, 40' of armco, spent 2 weeks in hospital in Dublin and off work for 3 months.

Putting stty tyres on the back of a Clio is a suicide mission IMHO.

Suicide Misson i am in agreement with. Guy from work a few weeks ago ended up rolling his Clio three times on a country road in the wet and the back end snapped out after a slight undulation in the road surface. Budget tyres are to blame here as he mentioned poor poor traction from the budget rear tyres before the accident!!!

I've got to agree with the sentiment of these Triangle tyres, they are utter shcensoredte!

I had them on my A4 when I bought it, brand new tyres all round (obviously someone put them on to sell the car)
In the wet they were seriously dangerous, after a nearly loosing at 15mph they came straight off for Goodyear asysemetrics.
Also, what concerned me was that when the new tyres were being fitted there was a random guy in tyre centre saying "why are you replacing those? They've virtually new and got loads of wear left on them".. I promptly said because they a danger to me, my family and other road users! and explained why..
He asked me if he could have them and I said, NO!

When tyre fitter heard what was going on he smiled and said I dont blame you for changing them.. these tyres (triangles) are dangerous.
