Not seen or read anything about this, but love HG Wells books, so will have to record it.

Mark Gatiss's adaptation of HG Wells's science fiction classic. July 1969, and as the world waits with bated breath for the Apollo astronauts to land on the Moon, a young boy meets 90-year-old Julius Bedford. He's a man with an extraordinary story of how, way back in 1909, he got to the Moon first, and, together with the eccentric Professor Cavor, discovered a terrifying secret deep beneath its seemingly-barren surface.

Looking forward to this. I've read the book and seen the original film, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed.

It was a nice touch when they got the 1202 alarm during landing but ignored it! hehe

Well I thoroughly enjoyed that. It was pretty sympathetic to the original book (given the short 90 minutes) and I though it was excellently written and directed. The actors played their parts very well, particularly Prof Cavor. Well done BBC. Good to see my license fee being spent well tongue out

They kept this quiet. I think I'll go for the HD showing.

I spotted that ... but didn't mention it to my OH as she already thinks I am geeky enough!

Very good, shame they couldn't have made it 30 minutes longer though! They could have got even closer to the original story.
Does this mean we may expect some more classics from the beeb? HG Wells, Johm Wyndham, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle etc.

Thay had a write-up of this in BBC Sky at Night magazine a few months ago. Maybe I should have mentioned something on here but didn't think to.

Looks good. smile

Enjoyed that quite a lot but why was it on so late? It was tame enough to be on CBBC.

I enjoyed that - it seemed to stay in the spirit of the original book.

My son actually remarked that it was easy to tell it hadn't been made in America - no bimbo who despite it being set in Edwardian times manages to get down to her underwear within 5 minutes of the start, as occurs in similar stories originating in Hollywood smile

It was OK but not as good as the old movie, which kind of defeats the object of remaking it.
It's the first time I've seen Rory Kinnear, he don't arf look like his dad doesn't he.
