This is a topic that has interested me for some time and i hope that its not going to stir up a hornets nest.....here goes.
Just wondering how many people on the Forum would 'genuinely' assist if they saw that a Police Officer was in serious trouble.
The assistance could be simply by using a telephone to phone for assistance.

Depends what you mean by serious trouble... if he'd been caught chucking scrotes down stairs then yeah, I'd help...
If he was getting the crap kicked out of him by a load of geezers.. weelll

Of course.
However, I do know of people (indeed some distant relatives) who would see hell freeze over first. They are well educated, middle-class, professional people who have been on the receiving end of a talivan ticket. Such speed enforcement policies will eventually have an impact on police/public relations.

Of course, any person getting a kicking would get a call to the police.
I don't know if I would actually physically get involved though; would always depend on the situation and what I had to hand. Anyway I wouldn't want to risk getting CSed or batoned by the assisting officers by mistake

But naturally Liebchen! Within reason - and would phone to bring the "cavalry". (Just a wee slip of a thing! - But hubby well capable He did Judo at Uni and he play rugby most Sundays)
After all - BiB could be one of ours or pal! And bad conscience would a terrible thing to live with anyway - especially if serious danger!
Do not be daft. We may hate speed cameras, and talivan twits - but we are not complete twazaks - just decent people!

How can they get in serious trouble. The only time iv'e seen a copper is in a car, gunning people or truning up three hours later. The only time there in a rush is if a TV crew is filming them or the chip shop is abot to close. I put myself in more danger than them nowadays.

Maybe i should become a criminal, its an easy life.

If he/she was loosing a battle with a load of blokes bigger than myself then I'd certainly make a phone call. After a few

Do policemen go anywhere alone these days? Every time I see some sort of incident about six cars turn up.
Which reminds me of the time that I heard breaking glass during the night. A regular noise. I was in two minds about whether to call the police but it sounded like someone walking down the road smashing window after window.
Four cars turned up in the car park of my flats and there was even a plod running down the road. They all scooted off in different directions to listen for the noise.
Turned out it was new gravel being laid on the railway

I'd certainly make a phone call, followed by a suitably loud "Oi!" in the hope that they would scarper. apparently the public were a lot more willing to help before the days of radio, when officers phoned in, as they knew for certain that if he was getting a kicking, he was on his Jack Jones.
Even so, it doesn't mean he can get help himself now. My cousin left the force a little while ago. In training, they heard the radio recording for the officer who was killed with an axe a few years ago(don't know his name, was quite well publicised IIRC). Apparently they could have got help to him, but he didn't know where he was, and couldn't give his location. Nasty
