This to me is absolutely insane....
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11570593

especially when on the same page of the news we have this...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-1157...

WTF?!? So we scrap our *only* carrier (and the planes) at the exact time that the Argentinians start sabre rattling about the Falklands? So they now know they can attack the runway at RAF Mount Pleasant (ridding us of our defensive air cover), invade the Falklands again and there will be absolutely bugger all we can do about it.

And while I'm on the same page - 4bn in "aid" to the likes of Pakistan?! I think I can see a budgetary change that would see our navy through these times. I bet Pakistan have got an aircraft carrier! The mind boggles, it truly does.

My elation at Gordon Brown being out of office has been very short lived - I know he's pissed all our money up the wall and that's why we're in this mess but these spending cuts have gone far, far too deep. We're going to be in a right mess - some of my friends are in the motor trade and they say that in the last couple of months business has gone through the floor.

I find the position with our carriers worrying too BUT I dont see it an issue with regards to the falklands, its unlikely that the argies would invade the falklands again.

This time we would be dropping a war hardened parachute regiment in after their tours of afgan etc

Also HMS Ocean is quite formidable especially if you stick some apaches on her.

Yes, that's right. We'll nuke Buenos Aires if they invade The Falklands.

Or....

Not.

We're very unlikely to go nuclear on civilians. You'd need a raging mental case in charge to give that order.

Maybe Brown could have had a use... scratchchin

OK but don't forget we sank one of theirs last time round. I doubt that their navy would even make it out of port before being turned into an artificial reef!

Yup, that sounds like Labour economics.

Remember Antarctica, or didn't you have maps when you were young?

What he said.

I don't know why we don't just all go "fk it!", get rid of the armed forces completely. Then we can do something more useful with the money. Like give it away.

Fair makes my blood boil!

I would expect neutral news outlet to mention the Argentinian name for the Falklands, but not the BBC.

That is close to treason...

If the birds are fit, auction them off. But yes, sell the Falklands and the stone to the Argies.

Saturation attack. 10X AAM's (best case) per tiffie X4=40 targets engaged, send 50 out, 10 left bomb the st ourt of mpa (toss bomb out of rapier range). Hmmm, indeed.

Typhoons are equipped with a cannon as well IIRC. 50 combat aircraft is about all the Argentinians have and lots of them are Pucaras. Does the Pucara have the capability to do what you are suggesting?

not a chance, they wouldnt get anywhere near enough to do anything.

id be more than confident of the typhoons being that effective they could send the lot at once and our boys could happily deal with them before they got into AAM or ASM range.

Can we get the terminology correct.

Gordon Brown hasn't just pissed all our money up the wall.

Gordon Brown has borrowed money that he has pissed up the wall.

Gordon Brown was planning on borrowing more money to piss up a wall.

=

Just remember that when you hear someone moaning about ConDem cuts and how they might vote Labour in the future, take a big black marker pen and write £160BN EXTRA BORROWING on their forehead (if it'll fit - might have to make borrowing smaller and on a line below, just above the eyebrows, with 160BN in big letters, you could even add a message on his cheeks given time as well, like "Screw You" and then on the other cheek "Gordon Brown")
