Just selling/sold my '55 V6 Sport Diesel. Highly capable and underrated piece of kit. I've not had any electrical problems (and mine was specced up to the hilt), or any of the stepper motor issues. As with any 4X4 behemoth, running costs are going to be higher, so look for full service history which will mean all Technical/Recall issues will have been dealt with.

Interior is a very comfortable place to be, handling pretty good for its size. One recommendation I would make is to go with 18" rims with all weather tyres - in snow you will go anywhere and you'll add comfort to the ride (even with air suspension like mine), whilst with 19" rims, you'll go through rubber every 12-14,000 miles and have a lumpier ride, albeit with the car looking good.... wink

I've driven a base spec diesel and it's painfully slow. Quite surprisingly and irritatingly slow. No car that costs that much by a prestige manufacturer should take about 15 seconds to hit 60!?

OTOH, I've been told the larger engines are surprisingly good.

Test drive is what I would suggest, I couldn't live with a car that slow I don't think.

Large and comfortable though.

Ps. 2nd post on the forum calling a long standing member a berk isn't very nice wink

EDIT: I also imagine this will end up in General Gassing.

He needs to advise you better. I would say you will always get helpful and informative posts but equal numbers of sarcasm and scoring points posts to show everyone how clever posters are. He should have known that. Really informative posts come from dedicated anorak forums. This is more like Top Gear, odd fcats buried in "alleged entertainment" wink

I've had a '54 V10 5.0 diesel for 4 years - fantastic family car with awesome grunt at all speeds.
Nothing but reliability from mine.

I owned two of them (Both V8 petrol). They were respectively the worst and most reliable vehicles I ever owned.

The 2004 had constant electrical problems from new including a ground fault problem that they simply could not fix. it spent half of the first six months in thr garage until I forced them to take it back. It was purchased new.

The 2005 was basically identical and absolutely bulletproof. They are beautifully finished and very comfortable, and if you have one with a good service history its worth a look.

with regard to the above helpful comment I suggest the author considers selling his "Volvo" if he wants to have less of a boring life
