Quite sad:

I always thought it was only a matter of time before someone was killed in one of these (in a preventable accident). They are death traps.

Shocking.

On these grounds if no others, they should be banned.

Why ban them?

It's like a motorcycle, or bicycle, or a horse, or even an original BL Mini - you know the risks when you get in, it's your choice.

I think you'll find that most people driving them are in no way aware of the risks.

I don't think people really do know the risks though, and that is the problem. It has four wheels, a roof, looks like a car and, let's face it, the only reason they're legal is a loophole.

To be bluntly honest though, I'm still struggling to wonder how you could end up having such a massive accident in one, I know they're flimsy but unless they're held together with spit and jimcrack one could only imagine that sort of damage would result at hitting something without braking at absolute Vmax (about 40mph if I remember rightly).

They MUST be. Unless they're thick as hell and think there's a full invisible rollover cage hidden inside somewhere.

If you don't get one of those things and immediately think 'crikey, this is flimsy, I collide with something in this I'm screwed' then you shouldn't be in possession of your front door keys, nevermind a set of car keys

They are driving a G-wiz! They are thick as hell.

I wonder if he is going to be cremated?

I think you'd be surprised.

It's mad really, I bet most people who buy them wouldn't consider a bike.

biggrin It's a heavy battery box attached to the front end by glassfibre and then repeatedly bumped over London roads... TBH I'm surprised there haven't been more incidents like this.

Maybe.

But probably not, in fairness. I find these type of people are often devoid of common sense.

I assumed from the damage (and the unrelated Vectra photo) that it was wiped out by another vehicle, but it was a single car and hit a wall by itself! Seriously crap 'car'

i know, I had assumed the same myself.

amazing that this car can exist. Surely this would come under other non-car related safety laws. I would expect a kids push-around-car to have better safety than that thing

A lot of people really wouldn't consider the safety aspect in a rational way. I suspect that many motorcyclists are more aware of the risks they take than the people driving G-Wiz's. As far as they are concerned it is a car, and cars are safe these days...

A G-WIzz is a quadricycle and not a car.

ETA: Is not a car as it wouldn't get close to passing any safety tests.

I think a lot of people think "Oh, it's a modern car, they're all safe".........

That's the first article about a road collision I've ever read where the driver isn't portrayed as a warp speeding maniac

As above. It's not a Car. That's how it exists.

Just because it looks like a car, and drives like a car, apparently doesn't make it a car.
