Hi there....
I'm newly registered to PH but have been reading for a month or two now as I am seriously looking to buy a Cerbera 4.2/4.5 as a second car to enjoy rather than pimpimg my Jaguar XJR V8.
I am completely sold on the Cerbera and cannot wait to own one... But..... My only concern is that the front passenger seat doesn't go back all the way or at least as far back as the drivers seat.
I have driven two different Cerbs (TVR Barnet) and sat in a few more and they're all the same. (passenger seat to far foward even when push all the way back).
Does anybody know of a bracket kit that will enable me to relocate the seat or am I able to do it myself?
I know I will very rarely play the role of a passenger when in the car, but when I do and/or have passengers I would rather the seat be situated further back from the windscreen and roll bar.
Does anyone have the same gripe or is this one of those 'unspoken' subjects?
Cheers.

They were specifically designed with the dash sweeping away so that the passenger seat was further forward, to allow a little more leg room behind.

Simplest solution if you want the seat further back, would be to unbolt the seat from the floor, drill new holes and relocate.

Sounds like a simple solution, but I thought the seats were bolted into a type of crossmember for extra strength.
So is the floor completely flat?
That'll make things so much easier.
Also can I thank you for your prompt reply.

I think there is a chassis member that goes underneath the seats (but the floor is between this chassis member and the seat).

Is the leg room on the passenger side really a problem? I have to say that with the passenger seat all the way back on my the amount of leg room is quite ample.

The back pair of passenger seat bolts go through the outrigger cross member, the front ones are just through the fibreglass floor (at least I am fairly sure it is that way round).

I ermmm Hmmmm... It's a big problem but I like the front seats to be level and I have the drivers seat all the way back.
Silly I know but if I can move it without to much trouble then brilliant.
Cool screen name by the way.

Cool... I shall get a bracket made up to relocate the rear bolts and drill new holes for the front ones. Job done.
Cheers guys.
Any thoughts on how you would go about the relocation are very welcome. smile

Just found a picture of the floorpan on page three of the 'Cerb Refurb' topic. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Is this a standard floorpan?

Personally I wouldn't! - it was designed like that and to me that is part of the cars unique character. The whole interior is asymmetric and to line the seats up would jar horribly to my eye. Its not like its short on leg room on the passenger side by any means. However it is (or will be) your car to wreck how you like wink

If you are moving the seat just make sure you consider the safety aspect as to what would happen to a loaded seat in an accident. To my mind even having 2 bolts through fibreglass is marginal and I have reinforced the mounts with metal on mine for both seats.

And yes - that floorpan looks fairly standard to me.

What about the position of the seat relative to the seat belt tensioner - wouldn't this be a problem?

Not that I've specifically looked, but I assume the seat belt fixings are in the same position as the drivers side, so moving the passenger seat back as far as the drivers seat shouldn't pose a problem in this respect. I think.

I guess a good thing of being able to open a topic on here is to get various points of view and after reading the replies I think I will leave the seat and see if I get used to it.
So thank you for your comments especially the one regarding safety.
Should have a car soon I hope, there seems to be a few to choose from.
One thing that miffed me a little, is that I went back to TVR barnet to re-drive and hopefully purchase a Cerbera I liked.
On arrival they informed me that the car I was interested in was in Stanstead and that if I wanted to see it I would have to go to there instead!!!
Is this the type of service expected from them or are they normally more helpful?
Up until then they were a very helpful and knowledgeable bunch, but on this particular day they didn't seem bothered, so I am looking elsewhere.

I have a similar problem......its like air vents having to be lined up.......my tip......drive it fast enough and eventually it will consume your peripheral vision and it will go away!

It's not an easy straightforward job. The runners on the passenger side seat are different, the holes are in different locations, and the passenger side seat belt buckle is also in a different position to the driver's one, it is set further forward. That would have to be relocated, and as the bolt threads through a nut welded to the chassis, you would have to that job as well.
The passenger side seats are just bolted to the floor, they don't bolt through a the chassis outrigger cross member. (But don't tell your passenger that)

Aha ! I never realised that there was all this engineering behind the "three-plus-one" publicity that I had heard of about Cerbs.

Interesting thread thumbup

Yes it is a bit like the air vents having to face the right way (I do that too!).
I like your solution though.... But I must add that unbelievable as it sounds, two weeks ago I drove into a couple of plod late at night doing approx 45mph in a 30mph zone it was quiet no other cars around and dry conditions but they were not happy and their happiness dwindled even further when they relised their speed gun failed to register my speed and had to let me go with a verbal warning and just a week later I was stopped doing 40mph in a 30zone, again it was late at night on a semi rural road where the plod holding the gun dropped and broke it whilst sneezing!!
I could not believe my luck as I drove away with another verbal warning.
Needless to say I have just purchased a Snooper Lynx speed detector.
Has anyone got one of these? Are they good? It seems to have all the bits I may need...(changing the subject yet again).
And back to the seat subject, I found a company that provides universal brackets (used for bucket seat install on track day cars) which will allow the seat to be set back by 2/3 inches which shouldn't make to much difference to where the seat belt harness is. (or will it?....Heeeeeellllppp!).

I suppose as long as the seat is in securely and the seat belt is attached to the body and not the seat itself then pretty much your well strapped in.
Does anyone remember the seats in the old Mini?
Secured by only two bolts at the front of the seat which also doubled up as a hinge in order to let passengers climb into the back!!!
Would that be allowed nowadays? I doubt it.

And the back was only held down by a hook!

Having said that, the seat fixings only have to take the weight of the seat in the even of a crash. The seat fixings will not need to deal with the weight of whatever is on the seat at all. The seat belt has to contain that mass.
