got a problem with my girlfriends 04 cooper
when driving you get a vibration through floor and a noise simlar to putting a stick
in the spokes of a bike. the noise goes if you depress the clutch or take it out of gear and coast.
not sure if its the gearbox and i dont know if it has the early box as its on the change over year.
does any body know if the latter getrag box fits and what additional parts would i need
thanks, mel

Well I cant help on the change - but the easy way to tell which you have is by the rear lights.

If your reversing lights are in the main clusters you have facelift so a getrag box, if the reversing light is a single until in the middle then you have a midland box.

If it is the gear box which by the sounds of it, it could be

you can fit any S 6 speed box but you will need an s clutch and flywheel, s drive shafts, 6 speed gear change and cable, modify the reverse switch, gearbox mounts, clutch slave and pipework and I think that is all

You can also fit the later 5 speed box which I believe is a straight swap, I'd do the clutch at the same time while its out. not a very big job.

I have just finished doing a 6 speed conversion on a cooper and it took about 10 hours but there was a cam change involved too and I do work at lightning speeds all the time especially after work
