With a baby due early next year, and after umming and aarhing for what feels like forever I was on the verge of jacking in my Boxster S for a Yeti or a CX-7.

But just reading up on the Cherokee Jeep and reckon I could keep the Boxster and buy the Jeep instead of just selling it and getting a Yeti.

Yeti would be around £18k.

Boxster S and Jeep together around £16k. smile

Jeep here:

Are they a pile of crap or actually ok?

The petrol version is terrible on fuel. Get a diesel one and you will see 28-30 mpg, petrol sub 20. Yetis are good cars, but you will get the depreciation hit, the two older cars combined will probably lose less, but cost more to run.

Seems like a bargain to me.

Why buy a Jeep?

Surely something like a mondeo or 406 would do the job of hauling things around just as well, and be more economical and more fun to drive to boot.

I've heard that the diesel in the jeep is a complete heap.

Do you really need a 4x4 for a sprog?

How about something like this:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2130958.htm

The wife has a 1.9tdi estate and while it isn't exciting, for motorways and carrying round a child it is great. So much space.

I'm not so sure you'll get a big depreciation hit on a Yeti. There is still a large waiting list (or was a couple of months ago).

Moving out of London to a house down the end of a rather unused country road. Well that's my excuse anyway as I'm sure an estate would be just fine.

Avoiding the diesel - would go for the 3.7V6.

I currently drive a Ferarri F430, but i have a kid on the way, so I'm thinking of chopping it in for a Seat Alhambra.

Do you think the Alhambra is big enough for a 9lb baby, a pushchair and some soft toys, or do i need something like a DAF XF95 and a 13.6m curtainsider?

I'm sure the Seat will be fine. Not sure how well it'll cope with the size of your sarcasm. But thanks for the input. wink

hehe

OP, there are any number of more PH off roadish options that you could run alongside the Boxster. The Forester is a good one IMO.

Back on topic, The Diesel Jeep is Merc sourced if I remember correctly and isn't amazing on fuel (late 20's mpg) but is no pup. Though (IMO) that version of the Cherokee looks a bit girly for me, it is extremely capable and you can take it green laning if you get bored.

I'd keep the boxter and go down that route. (I am a bit biased as I have a TVR and an early Cherokee biggrin )

In the same advert, they had similar cars listed.
There was a diesel X-Trail, diesel Corolla Verso, and 2.5 V6 TDi Skoda Superb for similar money. All would be fine, and you get to keep the boxster.

If it were me, I'd go for the X-Trail, or an old Cherokee for about £1500.00.

The boot space in those later Cherokees is rubbish for the size of vehicle. If you really want a Jeep, then either go for the older XJ Cherry or a Grand Cherokee. Both of which are available for peanuts.

Seriously, I have 2 smallish kids and run a Z4M (ont an F430 hehe) alongside an ordinary medium sized family estate car. Anything with 500 litres of boot space and a bit of leg room and some rear doors will be more than ok.

Wider cars than that and/or cars with long rear doors are less practical because you will smack the kids head on something getting it in and out if you have to park in an ordinary space.

Love the old W124. In fact, I rather want Garlick's one. Didn't know they did a 4WD one at all though.
