Who's off to the Ace tomorrow?
Discussion
...I do have a slightly ulterior motive for asking.
Are there any Griffith or Chimaera owners planning to attend whose boot space I could try out? Curious to see if the all-important saxophone case will fit in.
I know it sounds like an odd request, but I only need 30 seconds to (attempt to) drop the case in the boot! It's a solid case for a baritone sax, so it's far from being a foregone conclusion, even for a boot the size of the Chimaera's.

Will be tight if the roof section is in there as well. Might be ok with the roof still on the car.
I know, that's why I intend to give it a go first hand. Plus there should be plenty of examples to gawp at and get an idea of what constitutes typical condition.Of course I might just get my missus to take up the piccolo instead, because if the bari doesn't go in the boot of a Chim then I'm probably going to be relegated to a Porsche 968.

Are you going to be there?

Would have gone, but feeling a bit under the weather, and would probably take my Elise rather than the Grif. If I do go with the Grif then hang around my car till I'm there and you can try by boot - mine's the black 1994 Grif with round style rear lights.
Isn't that one in the classifieds at the moment? Think I was gawping at that last night.

If all else fails would it not be easier to post a pic of said case with the dimensions of it?

No need. I can now confirm it does just fit in the boot of a Griff
Phew, so you can buy the Griff then?Chris71 said:
Should be room for a folding mic stand and a few other bits as well in a Chimaera then.
and the paper bag for your head so others can't see who's driving such a fugly car

I do seem to have changed opinions in my old age though. When I looked at trading my S in for a Chim/Griff before I wasn't fussed on which one I went for, but I definitely do prefer the looks of the Griff now. A couple of grand saving and a bit more boot space (for regular use) is quite compelling though. Plus I won't need a chest wig to drive the Chim.

Some things are worth waiting a little longer for.

True, but my budget is going down rather than up! I've still got some funds left from the 9-to-5 I'm a struggling bohemian these days.

Budget could be an issue for a Griff though. Although there's a vague possibility I might be able to find some more elsewhere my own budget is fractionally over £10,000. As I understand that should buy a pristine Chim 400, a decent Chim 450 with a few mods or a very basic early 4-litre Griff?
I was in the same position as you with regard to budget when I was looking for a Chimaera 450 in March. I kept looking and eventually found a good car within budget that I could do a few bits with to improve it and then do some more major things (ACT breathing and plenum mods plus snortier cam) at later dates when budget allowed. After buying the car, refurishing the wheels, 4 new tyres, a bit of paint work (drivers rear wing needed tidying), fitting a new battery, acquiring a battery conditioner and buying some Autoglym bits and pieces I am under budget at c£9500 and the car hasn't missed a beat since
Car is in my profile picture and makes me smile every time I walk into the garage
