I need to put some new tyres on my wifes Freelander 2 and have thought about fitting Vredestein Wintrac tyres for all year round use.
Has anyone tried these. Are they any noisier ? Are they any good.we have 18" wheels

Fine for temperatures of 7C and below. But for temperatures above 7C the stopping distance is significantly increased. I do know of people who run Vred's all year round, but they haven't yet had to do an emergency stop!

Have a look for winter tyres on all the major tyre manufacturers websites inc. Vredestein and they'll tell you all you need to know. Basically in the UK, November - March is the period recommended for having winter tyres fitted.

No, but I can tell you Grabber UHPs are amazing on a Freelander 2 and a shed lot cheaper than OEM replacements. Way better at everything. Much less crashy on the bumps.

Haven't tried the Wintracs on the FL2 but I had them on my 7 series which was unstoppable last winter. I wouldn't have a problem fitting them to a FL2, but I wanted something not quite as road orientated that didn't sacrifice ride comfort.

I've got Wintracs on my Range Rover. They're considerably quieter than the Wranglers I took off and ride much better. They've done about 10k miles so far and are still around 5-6mm, so longevity doesn't seem to be an issue either.

No I wouldn't because they are designed to perform best at temperatures of 7C and below. Stopping distances of winter tyres when the temperature is above 7C are inferior to all season/summer tyres. Here's a test that Merc. did:

Here's what Vredestein have to say on the subject:

Get yourself a set of used alloys & fit them with winter tyres (Land Rover have just approved Continental for winter tyres) and run them from approx. November - end of March.

If you want to leave them on fit Vredestein Quatrac 3 - they work all year round, are full TUV winter rated, were great in last years snow but still decent at 25 degrees C in the summer.
